[EDIT]This thread is well old now, simply because between my computer breaking, and having Uni work to do, I simply haven't had the time to work on it.

Here's it's latest update:
(there's a different image down the page too)

[/EDIT]

i've been sat on this for a while now, i didn't want to release a WIP though, as i knew i wouldn't be able to work on it for a while.

This is yet another crack at a spy girl (those who've been around for a while might remember i seem to have a go every so often with a slightly better offering... but then get bored and don't finish.)

as it stands, the model is 4394 triangles, which is a bit much, considering i havn't finished on adding detail. but i'll probably reduce a lot of polys when i'm happy with the overall shape.

things i still need to do;
give her some footwear.
a few extra details like straps etc
have a careful look at the edge flow where the legs meet the torso

I might also be having a crack at a normal map

I'm open to questions/comments/crits, so fire away!

nice one,

Manic

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Wow, that's really good. They body is excellent. Very well proportioned. The face is good, but looks slightly masculin. With textures and the body it's obviously a girl. And the hair is girly. However, even with the hair, if you showed me the head and told me it was a man, I wouldn't be suprised. Unfortunately, I can't place why I think it looks masculin. I know it's unhelpful, but maybe you might have a better idea.

I agree the face looks too masculine. Perhaps try adding fuller lips and raised cheekbones (slightly) - try looking into what makes the female face well...female. I know it is more "babyish" but thats as far as my knowledge extends.

Other than that, looks great. Edgeflow where the leg meets the torso looks fine as well. The only area I could see where animation might be a slight issue is the quad around the groin area, but it should be fine.

Awesome model, 9/10

Maybe its a he-she?

Urm, but it might be the lips and nose. They seem too big for a woman.

Now I'm looking for it, I suppose it does, I also can't think why it looks masculine, it just does somehow...

the masculine face is another thing that runs along all these spy girl models i think. I have since made the nose smaller but i can't show you, because i'm at work right now

Hope you don't mind me having a go with photoshop here, but I thought I'd try to make the face a little more classically feminine for you (though, there are lots of different kinds of faces, of course )

The face needed to be made smaller in relation to the size of the head - as you suspected it should be somewhat more baby-proportioned. The jawline needed rounding off (too square), the chin smaller, and the nose needed shortening and making less flared. As was suggested elsewhere, cheekbones helped a bit too. Finally, I made the face a little thinner too, as the jaw was going back too far, and the lips larger (the top lip in particular - men traditionally have a thin top lip). She does look a bit mutated now (the cheekbones were probably a bit too much) but hey - there's only so much you can do with the smudge tool.

Hope that gives you a few starter points - the rest of the model (and your modelling skills) are pretty excellent! Well done

nice paint over tinkergirl. getting a crit on your models helps so much, after a while of looking, you can't spot problems too easily. I'll get onto it ...

Just copy Angelina Jolies face - really even if it don't look much like Jolie in the end it still ends up looking really feminine. I suggest her because there's a lot of straight on and side on face shots of her online. I had to make an attractive monster, so I used her face as a guide then added uglies to it - now you know I can't model heads for toffee, but I actually did a good job this time using that particular strumpet.

Model looks great, the body proportions are spot on IMO - your never sure what to expect in 'woman model' threads, unless it's by manic.

Nice stuff, I don't think I've seen much of your work, but glad I have. The body looks very J of A style (in its geometry), but more correct to the human anatomy. Good work.

Ditto, but when following to those specifications on the tut I got picked up on the anatomy, butt too big etc...I guess I should use my own design on my next female.

Quote: "I've got a heavy party to go to tonight"

So would I, however only just getting back from holiday and just finding out about it from Mack over MSN, he didn't know much, and well looking at things theres no point just turning up tonight, although Frankie sent the invite to my email before my holiday, she said next week (as in the one just gone) thus I assumed it was my holiday.

ok, i've feminised her face a bit more (i hope), narrowed her shoulders, dropped a few polys and made a start on her boots.

thinking about it, this isn't gonna see much more work on it, as i'm at my parent's house, and i don't have my graphics tablet... so no textures until tuesday next week when i'm back from the leeds festival. in the mean time, i'll still be working on the geometry and UVs

Why does that not surprise me coming from you? LOL

@Manic:
Nice work! The only complaint I have is the apparent partial disconnection between the body and the head, but I assume that'll be fixed before textures are applied.

Where'd that come from? Please no personal attacks, getting personal about things is not fun. Its how fights break out, as much as I love seeing people fight, thats why I enter Karate compos, but please.

Manic, that face is noticably better, personally, I think you can optimise the polies a little better, turning 4 into 1 where needed would be cool, but if you're going for the more high poly looks, then I'll mention the ears instead

@ Manic: The head looks alot better now. Please can you post some side and rear angles of the head so we can see the hair more clearly? (I like hair )

thanks for the replys everyone (except higgin's random outbursts), basically you could be waiting a while for any updates, as my computer is broke... competely

it got rained on a bit while i was out, and now pressing the power button does nothing. the standby light on the motherboard still lights up, so i assume the PSU is still ok... but nothing else happens.

if anyone has any ideas how to fix it, it'd be much appreciated!

cheers

Rained on? what was it doing outside?

You might be able to get away with a new processor... your problem comes if you're like me (in July) where your motherboard is so old, it won't take any processors currently on the market...

If you hear fans whirring, then replace the motherboard - but if not, try another power supply unit, if your board is fried, you should still get fans working you see, it might just be the PSU that's fried.

Only two fans are controlled by the motherboard. and at any rate if you hear the fans making any sound other than the whirling sounds you should first clean the fans and then move on to the power supply. as a last resort replace the motherboard. If your fans are not working at all definently replace your powersupply.

wow, thought this thread would have been locked by now!

well, basically my computer went haywire, so i wasn't able to work on this for quite a while. By the time i got my new computer, i had a stack of work to catch up on... so its only now i've been able to get back to this.

so, here's where i'm at now. it's 2627 polys, which i thought was pretty high until i was reminded of how much it was earlier in its development by this thread.

Questions and comments welcomed, theres a couple of things left to add, but its still open to change if you think it needs it.

EDIT:
here's my original (unfinished) concept.

I'm pretty much done with the texture now, there's a few blurry bits i need to sharpen up still, and a small amount of tweaking here and there though.

and some wires, (as I always complain when people ask for crits without them) they might help some people:

Her face is complex enough to be able to rig in some expressions, so I might have another go at doing that. She has teeth behind her lips, so i should even be able to make an F shape. It might be worth me getting dark voices if I can do a decent rendition of some mouth movements.

So, still to do;
-Model and texture accessories (guns & holsters, anything else i can think of)
-Rigging - I want to rig her face, and right down to her fingers, so this could take a while.
-Animating, so far, I have always been terrible at this, often because I've had massive difficulty in rigging. So I'm gonna have a steep learning curve.

Questions, comments & suggestions welcomed

Cheers

Looks good, seems to me you really know how to handle your polies and certainly shows you know what you're talking about when you give constructive criticism. With the ridge of the nose (between the eye brows) I had never thought to arrange the polies like that, it seems that will solve great problems I have, very well optimised and can see people learning from this. I see I did from looking at that one point, cheers.

it looks fairly nice, still some anatomical/proportion issues. It's pretty common, the masculinity showing through from mostly modeling males.

Shoulders are still a bit broad, hips are not those of a woman. I'm not saying give her a big ass, but they aren't really child bearing hips at all.

arms might be a tad too short, might be just her long legs.

Added some lines on the face for emphasis suggestions, her facial structure looks very asian, but the fact that she's caucasian tells me her cheek bones shouldn't be so high, and different things need to be emphasized. overall making it a bit shorter up and down, or at least pulling the jaw up and cheeks a bit down and out should do.

also the legs were a bit skinny for the way you made her arms look, a bit more meat on them with the added hip and latisimus dorsi suggestion lines will emphasize her femininity as whole.

I also sketched in the basic female figure, see how the hips connect to the legs almost seamlessly? that hourglass-ish figure is what makes the female, also the hip bones force thee hips up much higher than that of a male her same height, thus creating the illusion that the torso is much shorter.

to counter the hips on a femalethe rib cage should stick out a bit more, yours looks a bit smushed and flat in places, you have to remember that it is a round object. Even with only a few polies there are the certain points where the silhouette is crucial. front side and 3/4 view should all look proportionally correct.

Cool.

The model geometry looks really poly efficient. I like how you got the cloth looking semi-transparent. Only two things I can think of that might be improved is that the nose is a little thin at the tip, and the hair looks a little cohesive and unrealistic, though a bit of transparency around the edges might help this.

Overall though, it's a really great model.

nice crit oddmind, cheers!

aticper:the hair still needs some work on the texture to get it's proper volume, and as much as I'd love to alpha the tips of the hair, the last I knew, this caused DBP to incorrectly render the depths properly
