I decided to model something for cloudef, because his game looks good, but it lacks visual presence lol. so yeah this is a main character WIP, the thinking behind the character is, in the story this character basically crash lands on, from what screens are posted so far, seems to be a desert planet, with presumably some humanoid life on lol. so i figured, after this guy comes down from space and fights for the first part of the story in his spacesuit (that i will also be making for him) and with an iron bar or something lol. he will find a nearby town and don some sort this futuristic/fantasy/old-western get up, and get a proper (massive) sword, that i will model soon too.

the hair is an all time first for me, ive near used alpha mapping in blender but I plan to for this model, so that the hair will look realistic.

C&C welcome, its very basic atm, still got to do all the hair and fix the torso. tell me what you think

only thing I can see atm is the belt (extruded faces around the waist) is one section/group/loop/ring too high... Lovin' the legs and boots...

arms seem a bit long but i cant say anything in stone until we see a head on.

Ditto, tris are the most evil things on the plant, who cares about Adolf, Stalin, Bush, Blair, The Care Bears, tris are the real evil.

Looks good though, apply some surface smoothing (not the kind that changes the polies) and finish the head and texture, I think this would look pretty cool as a character.

MC: thanks

heckno: cheers, i think i've fixed the belt thing, good thing you pointed it out to me, i stopped looking at it ages ago lol. and yeah i'm impressed with the boots myself :p

oddmind:thanks, yeah i've fixed the tri's now, i find it's just helpful to model faces when they're triangulated, get a better idea of the final shape. i forgot to resize the arms too :S i made the torso smaller, and then the legs, but didn't fix the arms. fixed now though.

musashi: do you know how i would do that in wings?

Looks like a cool model! Keep it up

If they are all dark and wierd the polygons which are dark may be insideout. in cinema 4D if there are 2 normals next to each other and 1 is pointing out and the other is pointing inward, it causes a black look like the one on ur model.

Good model, but you should get rid of the dark polygons. In Blender there's a tool called recalculate normals outside which does the trick. I'd assume that other modelling programs will have something similar. I believe it's to do with the direction the polys are facing, but I'm not sure.

Yes your hair polies are facing the wrong way, right now in a game you wouldn't be able to see the hair unless you were looking out from his eyes. I think the recalculate normals is fairly unique to blender, but most tools should have a reverse normal tool, which essentially does the same thing, just you have to select the problem faces manually.

Its a great looking model, love the legs as well.

That looks absolutely amazing! Don't worry about the way Wings rendered it, the smooth render does suck.

hi everyone, basically i was wrong when i said i'd have time to model and things, i wish i had the time to finish off this model, but i really don't sorry cloudef if you were anticipating it and whatever. i hardly have time to work on my own project, on top of college work.

anyone can have the model as is it in that pic if they please, but as you an see, it's not very far down the production line.

all the best with dark ocean though. sorry again.
