Does anyone know where I can download a poly reduction tool? Maybe an earlier version of Melody as the current version doesn't do it anymore.

Aye, a free one would be most appreciated.

None? Crap. I'd rather not do it all by hand.

Blender (free) has a built-in poly reducer called the decimator.

Ever played Oblivion? Ever used the Tamriel VWD mod? The one that adds all the little buildings and shrines onto the distant LOD? I'm tryin to reduce the poly counts of said buildings and shrines for a better performance.

I would say do this
Have LODs of each
1 being the farthest away
1- Billboard
2- Basic Shape with texture on it aka cubes
3- Starting to take shape only major details

Personally for this I would remake each model by hand.

My modelling skills arnt good enough that would resemble their close-up counterparts. Sure going in and manually deleting polys is a very long process, at least I'll be able to use the original texture afterwards.

Thanks for the offer BigAdd, but, as I've said, I've got a reasonable amount to reduce.

What do you mean? Reasonable amount of Models? Or Polygons?

I reduced a 1 million polygon Sphere, Just Now, To a 500 polygon Sphere. Worked perfectly Fine.

Here I'll even give you a wire-frame comparison!

Thats just a black circle you drew, its not really a model, I bet you're lying Nah just kidding. So I see the newer C4D's have a good poly reducer, cool.

Yeah, I've got 25 .nifs, but each is made up of more than one mesh, so it could be quite alot of stuff to de-poly.

I would rather use a reducer if my models were in the millions of polygons.

you should hope it doesn't get that high, I would only expect that with high detailed displacement maps, even then proggies with that in are able to put it back down to its original poly count .

But poly reducers and other 'clean-up' tools are useful for the quick little bits, I use iron, its a tool that does its favours, but I could live with out it by working manually...saying that, there is quite a lot you can do manually...but some of it isn't quite worth the time. But poly reducer's probaly jumble up some of the geometry.
