hello guys,

im currently modelling a UT2007 style character for my portfolio, i am trying to showcase different techniques to help prove what tasks i can acheive, one that i find will enhance my renders is the addition of HDR Bloom.

i have searched, yet no answers, and i am looking for some way to get about this in 3DS max 7.0, i dont think i can do this with the scanline renderer or can i? would i need to use mental ray? i have read somewhere about using a video post, but i still have things to learn in the field of rendering and lighting techniques.

or is it acheived in the material? do i need to create some sort of FallOff?

ive just been playing around with heavy backlighting on my renders whilst texturing, coming out nice, but the overbrightness doesnt seem realistic without the falloff of light.

any help would be great, thanks, if your looking for a render just ask, ive got one ready...

I'm not a Max user, but generally the 'bloom effect' is caused by the glow feature in a rendering program, in Cinema 4D you can apply 'glow' into the materials, and more recently you can apply a scene glow with the render settings. Look for something similar in Max.

Look to the 'video post' (rendering menu), click on the 'add scene event' button, then click on 'Add image filter event', select 'lens effect glow'. Change 'source' if you want the glow only on a few objects.
