dear lord no.

have you done the low poly spaceship tutorial? Teaches you the ins and outs of polymodeling, which is my favorite way to do things in max.

learn to character model, its a long journey, but you'll learn more than you'd think along the way.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I'm with Quoth on this one - the spaceship tutorial is very useful, it will introduce many things you'll use time and time again - extrude, cut, bevel, etc.

Hmm. Well, I remember having the spaceship tutorial in a previous version of Max, but it looks like they've replaced it with an aeroplane tutorial in the latest Max version. (But they still reference it in the later animation tutorials, bah.) The aeroplane tutorial looks ok though - it's the one after the chess set tutorial (that I'm sure you've gone through).

Try browsing tutorials and try to pick up a bit of everything, be diverse in what you make. If you only make characters what will happen when sombody asks you to model a level, learn it all but take it in short strides learning bit by bit and picking up from hints and feedback, start with a short small hello world or somthing.
