First of all, this has nothing to do with the new upgrades to FPSC.

When I create my own models for FPSC and get them into the editor, I cant use physics with them because they can not be seen ingame, so they have to be set to static, always!

So I am wondering if FPSC acts funny with certain types of mesh. I use editable poly for my scenary objects, but editable mesh for my characters (because they become distorted with poly).

Would it be the fact that my objects are editable poly that I can not see them in game, while they are dynamic?

(I can see them fine while they are static)

I've seen this posted before, but it just HAS to be something else... Because every model I've ever made for FPSC has been exported as an editable poly, and has worked fine with physics, whether it's been a character or entity.

How is your modelling workflow? For example, mine is:

1. Modelling phase, almost always using editable poly, various modifiers.

2. Edit UV's

3. Collapse modifier stack to editable poly

4. Apply Reset-Xform

5. If model is a character, apply physique

6. Export using panda exporter

If the model is not a character, I export after step 4, with nothing in the modifier stack except my editable poly

Well, I:

1. Model as editable poly, add modifiers that I need

2. Add an unwrapuv just after the editable poly so I dont have curves or tangled uvs to mess with.

3. Export as a 3ds file

4 use the DB Converter to turn it into an x file

I only use the panda exporter for characters and thats when I follow your work flow.

Ok, well there could be a lot going on between steps 2-5 that could be causing your problem. First of all, its considered bad practice to export a model with anything in the modifier stack besides a "skinning" modifier like skin or physique. Always collapse the stack before export.

And you're making 2 fomat conversions to get to the final format, who knows what could be going on there. Converting between formats is always tricky business. Why not just export directly from max using the panda exporter, it's always been reliable for me.

And don't forget the importance of using Reset X-form for ALL your models. Not applying it can wreak havoc on collision detection, especially when the entity is dynamic.

Thanks Mark, I got my models working with physics. I thought I should do some thing nice, so I donated some money to your site, for the help.

It always helps when some one else has just that little more knowledge of what to do.

That was nice of you, thanks!

I'm always happy to share anything I know. 3d modelling for games specifically is still kind of a mysterious black art. I don't know of any place that has all the rules written in stone...

It was frustrating to figure all this stuff out on my own, I still learn new things all the time. But everything I know I had to piece together from reading tons of books, training DVD's, and of course scouring the web with obsure search phrases.
