heckno-i really think you should add more dead features to the zombies, like on grunge... the zombie like humans that haunt people are alot like dead people with the black around there eyes and extremely pasty skin, there should also like stated before should be more blood... damaged, not so lean othes, and exposed insides(people want to see the guys fratured bone sticking out of his arm, not blood from his mouth)

i like redwall, videogames, and...CHEESE!!

Uhh, yeah. You probably missed the part where these guys just went from being alive to being zombies. They haven't been dead long enough to get that typical "zombie" look.

Actualy, a great reference for this type of zombie would be reading steven kings new book, Cell. It has a great description of something sort of like a recently dead zombie, only a heck of a lot scarier.

no... it doesnt take long for an arm to break and it doesnt take long for the blood to drain/stop.
besides it would be boring to see a perfectly healthy man running at you... thats not scary(if you ask me, theres more comedy that could come fom that than horror, and if it was a horror wich you were hoping to turn out good then you would be simply amazing, now lets ask ourselfs one thing, am i simply amazing)

Actually that's a bit scarier, it adds to the feeling that these people are losing their minds - people don't usually do that...

Its an improvment, do you think I could see the texture? Maybe I could help out with it. I'm a huge fan of zombies and draw that kind of stuff all the time, so I may be able to make him look more Zombie like.

I think the eyes should be more animal like, as though the very thing that makes them human is gone, and all that's left is a husk... something to look into is that they wouldn't care how clean they were, and might be covered in a fair amouint dirt and grime, and if they still have bodily functions, prehaps amungst all the grim you might find a few that have soiled themselves. Sounds funny, but if done right, it's anything but.

Oh, and they should be able to attack with their teeth. The human jaw can be pretty good at ripping things apart. Oh, and 'cause they're zombies, they shouldn't just attack you... they sould attack everything, seeing and they no longer can make destinctions.

hmmm... now I can't stop thinking about Cell...

Edit: especialy since they've just turned zombie, rather than having lots of blood, having blood and grime all mixed togeather on them would be a lot more unsetling...

If you got a physics engine in the game, make sure the zombies can interact with it to an extent. Nothing could be better than seeing a zombie bust through the backdoor, and throw a small table and chair set out of the way as he rushes towards you!

what i was thinking was that you can close a door behind you and place a heavy object in front of that door. then if the door opens towards you, the heavy object is in the way. now the zombie needs to find another route.

one other example would be that you are inside a room. there is one window, a door and a air conditioner pipe. depending on where the zombies are originally, if they are outside the door then try to break through it, if they are outside the window, break that and climb through, if they are by the other end of the air conditioner, try to climb through.

what i mean, and hope to accomplish, is that no matter where you are, you are safe. unless you make it safe.

a Demo? uhhhhhh.. what is that again?

I said in my first post that i don't have much time to do this, but i also got another reason to why progress is slow, because DP doesn't support Dynamic Mesh to Mesh collision.

hopefullt BatVink will finish his "Physics Editor" so i can make complex objects in it that DP support. (yes i am too lazy, and don't have time, to write my own).

Looks and Sounds cool!

One question. how did you get the motivation for all these and maintain it. i'd love to see a article on motivation which isnt too complex.

good point. maybe a clowns zombie with sledge hammer GAHHH!

Quote: "do you only shoot the head for a kill or any place.

good point, i never though of how to actually kill the zombie :/
'cause you can't really kill them now can ya!
i think what this game need is chainsaws. with lots of blood on the screen, oh and maybe i will remove all weapons and only use melee weapons. that would be awesome. i've allways wanted to make a hide and sneak game, like Thief.

Quote: "One question. how did you get the motivation for all these and maintain it. i'd love to see a article on motivation which isnt too complex."

well, an article i'm not so sure about. but i did it this way:
first i created a cool game that i called zombie hunter.
i thought that the name was quite cool, and I wanted to make a story for it. after the story (which keep changing) i created some games with the same names, but kept trying to stick to the story.
zombie hunter 1.0 was the first game whith no intentions at all but to kill as many zombies as you can. zombie hunter 1.7 was created as a "survive game" because i thought it would be cool to start with that part to build up the engine, but after some time i got tired and decided to only have the survive mode. zombie hunter 1.8 is the real zombie hunter game, where i had parts of the story in.
but the gameplay was really bad. so i decided to make another zombie hunter game, this time in dbpro, which will feature shaders and what not, to give it a scary atmosphere. with the help of Jonny Ree i hope this will be possible

basically my motivation comes from the game not being as good as i want it to be.

Thinking about the Cell comments some more, you should have the zombies 'hunt' in groups with a leader, akin to the Raggedy Man and the flocks in Cell, just don't have them so advanced that they can levitate and control minds, etc.

I'd prefer if you could kick the doors open just by walking towards them

i would also prefer that, but most people would want to open it by a click. so i have been thinking about adding a kick attack (like postal 2 haha) to kick the doors open.

I have also made up my mind about NOT adding any firearms.

you attack with what you find, be it a wooden plank, a chair, a skateboard, a baseball bat, a knife etc.

i mean.. come ON!! who here have machine guns or even a pistol laying around in the street!?

Well... what if you kill a cop? Or break into someone's home. With all the accidental child shootings, most must not leave their guns locked up these days.

Yeah, for example, my neighbors have two rifles and a shot-gun on their cabinet, and some ammo lying around near by. Don't want to get them angry. <_<

About the running into doors thing i think its a bad idea

A)If you wanna board it up or block it then you will accidentaly open it and the zombies will know where you are if they dont already.

B) what if you only want to listen to the next room before you rush in.

One question: will different zombies have different sounds?

Yeah, just make the doors kickable with a keypress. It adds alot more strategy to the game... You could also use the kick as an attack too then.

I agree with agent dink, but you should then have 2 keys open and kick for opening doors, cuz what if you want stealth?

also will we be able to climb like on roofs, up ladders, pipes and other?

Heyia,
I haven't ditched the project. It's just paused for a while.
I was working on my entry for the nvidia competition, but around december sometime the game engine was completed and I needed models and etc. Because I can't model or animate, the project got on a hold until I found a modeller. But my search was a failure. Even if I found a modeller/animator today it wouldn't be time to finish the rest of the engine (implement animations, limb to limb collision (sword fight) and some other stuff).

Anyway, now that I stopped working on my entry I will definetly have more time.

At the moment I am working on "Game Manager v2". After that we'll see what happens.

Though I will need some modellers for this project for sure, unless I take some time and search for a 3d Editor, and tutorials to go with it.

Not very good, I hear Lucas has lost interest in game making or what not. He dropped out of the Pirates of Port Royal project.
