im trying to put a vent shaft on the side of a wall but when i place it it deletes the wall so u can see an open space and the vent how do i fix this

Place a vent then replace the wall. However, dont use the wall large or wall small segments. Use a room segment and press M to place that kind of wall.

When you place the vent shaft, you need to replace the wall that disappears (in the segment editor); after that you have to place a 'vent door' over the new wall.
