Hi guys

I have just downloaded the DBPRO demo and have two problems,

One - when i run the head demo i get the following message

"Runtime error 1506 - display using 24 bit is not supported by available hardware at line 0"

Now i tried running a program with the following line of code and still got the same error message.

"perform checklist for display modes"

Now what is going on, all programs at the start should be in text only mode untill the programmer sets the graphics card.

Two - when trying to run in debug mode i get the following error message.

"Failed to 'write program as exeorbebug'"

What is this all about.

I was going to buy the full version of DBPRO as I already have the original DB plus enhancement pack, but it doesn't look like I will be buying this version unless i can get the demo version working.

I'll be looking to buy Blitz Basic if I can't get DBPRO working.

Thanks...

HI

I have set my graphics card from 24 bit to 16 bit colour and everything appears to run O.K., why doesn't dbpro want to start programs in 24bit colour depth.

Does this mean that any potential user of software has to set their display settings to something other than 24 bit colour depth.

thanks...

Because DirectX no longer supports 24-bit mode, as it was only mainly used by 3DFX. Its more efficient to use 32-bit mode anyway.

And, to be honest, there is no point in running in debug mode anyway.

sorry but that sounds like something in your setup, certainly I do not get the problems you reported.

I know people get sick of hearing this but - are your gfx card drivers up to date? what about DirectX, are you on DX9?

Erm, 3DFX was 16 bit ...

Also, if your graphics card does not have a large amount of memory, then at higher resolutions there may not be enough free memory to run in 32 bit mode - solution : lower your resolution

The Voodoo 3000 upwards could use 24-bit screen option - it probably passed data as 2 lots of 16bits...

There are cards still being sold that use 24-bit graphics mode. The only differnce with 32-bit mode is the additional 8 bits for transparency information. DirectX still supports 24-bit mode. I know, I run it at home.
