I'm having stress with a few sprites - most draw fine using black as alpha cut out, but one or two don't draw properly.

i'm using patch4, haven't tried it unde patch3.1
the alpha'd areas are black rgb 0,0,0
a dark line appears around parts of the outline, never inside the sprite
I can't see any pattern why a few don't draw right when most do

any clues folks?

You haven't converted BMP's from JPEG's have you ? That could cause the problem due to anti-aliasing.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

nope, they're honest-to-goodness TGA's with no alpha channel saved as 24bit.

Use the alpha-channel capability of the TGA (or PNG) format to create your transparent areas, not the colour black. It's far more efficient and you won't get the problems you're getting now.

Cheers,

... and don't forget to add the extra ',1' to your LOAD IMAGE command to disable anti-aliasing.
