I am using UV mapper software, when I copy an image from the gimp into my map I seem to lose the color quality, any ideas as to why?

an example was that steak model it was fine in the pic but when i tranfered it to the map I got the color you currently see on the model.
also cerain colors seem to pixalize when they are applied to the map hmmmmm.

U.V. mapper saves the texture file as a bmp. it's possible that it undergoes color loss or distortion when entering if it is a different filetype.

Actually I figured it out, I just use the uvmapper to get the blank map, then I transfer this map to the gimp, then it works fine.
