Here it is! The full version of Galactic Chaos; a game made for the retro competition. At first, I wanted to wait with release until the results, but the I figured that not many people would play the game if it would not end up high. That's why I'm posting it now, two days before the deadline. This way, more people will try it, I think.

A manual is included with the game, so I don't think I have to explain how the game works. Just read the manual (I know it's hard, but just do it).

This game is a totally 3d remake of asteroids. It has 25 levels and a practice mode. And you have 6 different weapons. The game is not based on lifes, because I find that very annoying myself (You almost made it and then you have to start all over again because of one stupid mistake, just frustrating).

I hope you like the game. I'll probably not change anything anymore, because I'm satisfied with the results. I only hope it will do good in the retro comp.

BTW the game is quite CPU intensive (many objects and DB), so don't try it on a P 200 for example, I think you need about a P3 800 with decent videocard to run this game.

And to fresh up your memory, here are some screenshots:

Have fun! And I expect you all to finish the game in easy, normal and hard . j/k

Brill game, excellent presentation. Definately shows that class games can be made in DB. Got as far as the level with the gravity mines but will try to get further.

This game is awesome! Very well done and professional as well as addictive and fun. I predict it will be in the top three if not number one.

OMG!! This is the best db game I’ve ever played!
Gorgeous graphics. Excellent game-play. Totally awesome work!
I agree with Overdroid, this should make a high placing in the comp.

Just one thing - It would be great if you could replace the default mouse pointer. Db’s effort isn’t the best in the world.

Great work

Btw. I’ve got a naff 650 duron and I get great fps in 640*480 and that’s without reducing the landscape and texture detail.

edit: Results in newsletter due out on the 20th - Today!

"Results in newsletter due out on the 20th - Today!"

Sadly this isn't likely to be the case, Easter weekend combined with 2 bank holidays here have thrown a spanner into the works. Issue 4 + results web site will be out ASAFP, believe me, but it won't be today.

Sorry

I believe with the arrows you use the mouse to steer and fire, that's how I played. I'm sure Kevil can illucidate.

hehe, Rich found that bug too. I never play with the arrow keys, so it wasn't really tested. I'm sorry. But I think it's still playable without it. Thanx anyway .

Hehe, normally you will get the cheats after you finished the game, but the text for the ending credits (with cheats) are stored in a file somewhere (shouldn't be too hard to find). So you can just find that file or finish the game.

Game is very good. Unfortunately it ran slowly on my comp, and then crashed it. But It was worth it and I enjoyed it very much.

At the minute I am modifying the code to try it get it to work on slower machines, and replacing a few models and textures. So far Ive only managed to stop the mp3 music from stuttering on old sound cards. Im really interested though in the way it feels like starwrath.

I don't think you will have to replace the spaceship model. It's lowpoly already (around 300).
BTW I don't think my game is serious enough to feel like starwraith.

Kamakase:
Too bad it didn't run faste nough for you. You did try the settings did you?

In my opinion it feels starwrath-ish but gives me a felling or retroness. And Ive found a way to squeeze a bit more fps out of it but not enough to be played on 700mhz or lower end systems. The patch will roughly be 2 Megs ro replace textures, models, menus ect

But what you've done I could never do in db... now wheres the kudos button *hint* *hint*
