In making a tree, I understand the basic method. I know how to use a png to get proper transparency and to model the tree and such, all I'm wondering is, how do you see the back of a plane? This would be sort of like a 2 sided plane, but I cannot seem to get a proper 2 sided plane.

For example, this side of the plane will not be visible in a game. What are the methods of getting around this?

When I take a box and take out all but two sides, I get a messed up 2 sided plane, I think because you can't have 2 planes on 1 pixel of space. Any help is appreciated!

theres a command to turn object cull off which will make you able to see polys facing away also you could just point the planes at the screen so that you never see the back side of the plane

Well it isn't going to be a single plane though. I'm going to have a trunk and branches with planes on the branches. If the player goes behind the tree, some planes won't be visible.

As for the culling, do you have any idea what the command is? I can't find anything (only DBC right now, upgrading to DBP soon).

An example in use is this tree:

It is just 2 planes, but if you walk around to the backside, the whole thing just disappears because there isn't anything there.

Thanks Jerok for the help so far.

look at the set object command, there is a plethora of switches within that command that activate and deactivate the principles it controls, eg specularity , culling etc..
