I love this game. My friends and I have been playing the old n64 version emulator with some xbox controllers at school (I have an adapter and my friend spliced his with a usb cord) It's a whole lot of fun.

Anyone have any idea how to make a game like this? I assume it would be hard but I'm no good at programming so I wouldn't know. I think it would be pretty awesome to have like 4 players (using joysticks, not on the keyboard. That'd be hard.) I think it'd be a pretty fun re-make. Is anyone making a game like this? I'd love to know.

No way. Is that Drew G? I thought you were gone!!!!

I had an idea to take some db heros like Tito, Dumbow and Cool, Soul Hunter, Block Man, Lee Bamber, etc. and make a smash style game called DarkBASIC Bros. or something. One of the major faults is not enough db games are hero oriented, so the game would end up using basicaly every major character from the selected games. but that's sommething that can be worked around. I wont make the game, but I'll help organize it into a open source project or something, provided the authurs give promission to use their characters. I think it would be pretty fun, and a great advertisement for the tgc and its community. I'd help with consept art and basic game design layout, and some level layout ideas, but I would not be the one to make it. It contradicts certain things I can't disclose as of yet.

I alread started a game like this as a matter of fact. Let me find a screeny...Ah! Here you go! I so far have movement, damage from water, increased throw distance with more damage, death when you go too far off screen, arrows pointing to offscreen players and a few other bits and bobs. Unfortunately I pretty much gave up this project a while back.

Nice Andrew. You should make the code available so we can all learn from your greatness!

Anyways, I think a darkBASIC Bros would be great if we had more heroes, I could've contributed a few if I hadn't made the decision to move my game to XNA Express... (Urbia in case you're wondering)

Wow you guys! I couldn't be more flattered! This has given me quite a boost and motivation to do more coding as I have been a little slack lately. I had planned to pretty much drop this project but if you really think it could go somewhere then I'll resurect it as soon as I finish my current project which will be within the next couple of weeks hopefully. Then I will either finish it or release the source as you requested. Once again, thanks and if there is ever anything I can do to help any of you then let me know!

I hope you're still working on it, i'm not sure what i could do, but give me a job and i'll help.

If you guys need more people why not have a thread to get input from the community on what would classify a TGC Hero.

This is really exciting, and it looks good.

Why not have DB user's as playable characters as well. A lot of user's have unique sigs and avatars that would make great characters. could be some fun. good luck guys on building such a game.

I have an amazing idea.

!TGC Super Smash Bros!

Pick chaarcters from the mod squad or anyone who enlists there name here.

Of course, the mod squad would make models of themselves, or someone could make a model of them for them. It would be an awesome idea.

So you enlist your name, make a model for yourself, pick your element and style or whatever. It would be an awesome game. A community project.

Oh, hehe. Well like I said, you could show us what you want to look like,a nd we could make something you

I'm completely up to that. Not only is it good modelling practice, but it'll help anyone who wants to be in this.

So how about it? TGC based super smash bros community project. Either you make amodel for yourself, or I or someone else can do it for you. I can help program and make music too.

That would be great ruccus, thank you so much, you guys are great you know that right?

I can't really help as far as programming goes, but level design and theory on how things could be done like easter eggs is something i could do.

I'd love to contribute to this project as much as possible.

Okay so one idea i had would be of me. A long haired surfer-esque dude with a hawaian shirt and dark shorts. Sandals and a bucket hat.

By the way, i can be more descriptive if you like.

One more, what about a tiny grim reaper.

Gee, I dont know Zombie, I mean if you want ruccus to do this for you, I dont mind letting him go ahead and do it

Sure, a little more descriptive would be nice. So... so far its me and Zombie in on this community project.

Heres the team:

Xeno-Programmer, 3D Modeller, animator, programmer, music composer
Zombie 20-Level design and theory

A couple ore programmers and modellers would be nice.

sorry about that above post, i was reading a thread by ruccus and put in the wrong name, i'm sorry xeno, i meant no offense.

xeno-i could bring on an artist (possibly two) within the week, although neither have experience with modeling, they can provide quality sketches.

I guess we just need to generate a little more buzz about this, i don't know how many people would actually be interested. I'll do whatever i can.

That would rock. So as of now we have this for our team.

Xeno-3d modeling,programming, animator, music composer
Zombie20-level design and theory
The Crazy-3d modeling,animation

Alright great, get the word out, we need more people who are want gain experience and be part of something thats really cool.

By the way Xeno and Crazy, i'm not that great at darkbasic yet, but i could make some 3d items for you if you like. I'd have to do it in dbc as thats the only application i have right now.

It's ok Zombie 20 , I didn't take any offense but I'm in a sarcastic mood

Crazy, its awesome that your on this project as well

Actually, I am going to do my character first Just so I can get him out of the way.

So lets start with the engine and a few levels. What kind of camera view do you want on this?

Wait, how about we make this online?

Hmm...well i was thinking the camera system that they had for the game. The camera would scroll up,down, left, right while still showing a majority of the level.

So it'll be like we're watching them fight in front of us.

Online would be really cool, that would really bring some action here. That also gives a lof of fun options for different battles that just couldn't be done without 6 or more people. Eg:Berserk- One person is the berserker and everyone must take them out before the timer runs out, succesful kills will score the team a point.

Hey, i'm having some trouble with this code, what i'm trying to do is make the sphere stay with the cube and i tried to glue it to a limb, but there is no limb to do that. Was wondering if you guys knew how to do that, because then i could make some more advanced looking items.

Hm... I actually attempted this awhile back. I decided to give up and made a little "3d but 2d side scroller" game engine using sparky's collision. I'll see if I can find it.

[EDIT] Well, I've still not found it, but I figured I might as well show you guys the character I've been working on this weekend. It's just some four-legged crab thing inspired by banjo-kazooie. It's 538 tris and is my first properly uv mapped character. It also has a bump map (what is seen in the renders) and a normal map for dbp (not seen in the renders)

xeno-all i see is a sphere moving really slowly, don't know if that was your intent or not.

Anyway, i'll make up some more stuff for items. By the way, what programs are you guys using for modeling, maybe i can get a trial and help out until i can buy the full versions.

So anyway, working on some level and menu design, i'll post all that up to. Are we going for a cartoony look like the original smash bros. or more realistic backgrounds?

Crazy-That thing is cool, i'd love to see it in a platformer as a character.

Yea xeno, i changed it to seven in the loop, running smoother now.

Well i've asked Phalenex and Ruccus to come on, don't know if they will. I'd love to see this game go online, we could have leaderboards, and distribute awards for being in the top five for so many days, weeks, etc...

I hope we get more and more people on this that come in with their own character designs. One thing though, if its online, where will players be accessing this to play?

I've got a bunch of character designs (not even counting my friends who's a much better artist than i) so with everyone else, characters won't be in short supply.

Animations of character specific moves would be cool. Example, as seen in a trailer for smash bros. brawl, what if we create an item that when grabbed, allows the player to let loose a screen-filling attack?

All those ideas are great Zombie, but lets not get over excited

I was thinking actually adding online later. First we should do keyboard-multiplayer and AI.

So first steps-recruit people to this community project, find a good place to host it.

Also in the meantime, zombie can continue on the level designs, and I on some characters.

Right, sorry mates, its just such a big thing for me to be working on a project like this.

I'm working on recruiting people right now, as for hosting no idea.

Right, so back on level design.

Here are two powerup icons in they're most basic form, no texture, just basic color.
Powerup #1
sync on
sync rate 60
hide mouse

make object cone 1,40
position object 1,0,10,20

color object 1,rgb(40,0,70)

Fade object 1,150

do

pitch object down 1,6
turn object left 1,7
turn object right 1,8

sync
loop

Powerup#2
sync on
sync rate 60
hide mouse

make object box 1,4,4,4
position object 1,0,0,20
color object 1,rgb(0,100,30)

do
pitch object down 1,8
turn object left 1,8

turn object right 1,8

sync
loop
hmm, the code snippet didn't want to work.

Zomibe- Those look pretty cool, nice job

But I think we should, if we are gonna use power ups, make them in a 3D modeller with actual animations. Thanks for the effort, but I'd appreciate it more if you stick to the level designing

Again, no offense, but I think we really should stay on track.

First we have to at least rpogram the engine. Leave th eprogramming and what not to me and whoever else wants to help out.

And as of levels, i'm gonna work with my buddy on them, the first few are coming along nicely.

I agree as well, staying on track is pivotal to the completion of this project.

two ideas: water: in areas you could put water where some characters can drown some cant, and if both can then they can try to drown eachother, or if one has a gun could climb out and shoot where the other is in water to kill him.

Special abilities: abilities that only the character has

Also i would like to be a character, i would like to be a strong man with a katana and also fast but only just about to jump up each block. my special ability would be to throw my katana

Sounds cool man, unfortunaley, you'll have to talk to xeno or the crazy for character modeling. I also only have the trial of a world builder right now, so i'm a bit limited in what i can design, but the water is a good idea.

I'm getting the full version soon, a tax return should get me some cool programs and caffiene.

Well anyway, here's another level, let me know what you guys think.
