I'm happy to pass the torch xeno, but i just wanted to help out.

What do you mean you don't do enough, you and crazy are doing a majority of the work, programming and animation and modeling.

Glad you guys like the designs, i'll work on some more tonight and post them up.

Dont get me wrong Zombie, I just think if two people recruit- too many people... so I'm going to ask some people in particular. Thanks though

Ok, can't wait. Try adding mroe shapes to it. Blocky blocky block world!

But its still good. You have taste in how designs should be.

Now i really need to talk to the Crazy. He started this project, he should be in charge of it.

Yikes Am a bit too busy for that right now... Sure I'll make some models and whatnot but this aint a full time thing for me.

Also, I posted a zip with an old demo I made for just a 3d platformer... It seems it did not go through...

I got next.

[the days of the arcade!]

I want in. Xeno, surely you know what I'm good at.

Also I'm not so sure the levels are cutting it... they're WAY too basic and would need alot of work done for this game to impress, the levels play a huge role in the fun factor of Smash Bros.

Yea i know cian rice, it needs work. I'm sorry, i thought they were pretty good.

However, you do make a point, those levels were really fun, i'll try again.

I'll post before i go to bed tonight.

Actually, i've kinda lost the want to design for tonight, i think i'm going to turn in, i'm tired.

Talk to you guys tomorrow, i'll check in a bit, not sleeping yet.

cian, i was wondering what you needed to see to impress people. The more i know, the better i can be at making the levels, unless you guys have someone who can do it better, after all, i am new to this,
I wouldn't mind.

Some more ideas: boxed levels where water flows up until characters drown or are killed from normal battle

Magnetic levels: 2 settings on shoes + and -, basicly works like a magnet

barrel levels: like the boxed levels where waters flow up exept you shoot the barrels or whatever to make the barrels flow.

right, those are all good ideas, but right now i don't have the full version of the programs i'm using, but i'll give it a shot, just remember, i'm limited for about another week. Then we'll be good.

Right, well here is another level, not as boxy, but i wanted to still keep the platform there.

Well, I'll most likely be pitching in some levels. But hey guys! I'm buying a web domain for my own personal use, but we could set up a forum or chat system on there so we dont have to spam gd theory.

Oh, and xeno, you sort of disappeared from aim last night. Did you like my engine?

Oh yes, I had to go, sorry about that... The engine is awesome Great work man.

And Cian, of course you can join. And you can do some pretty awesome stuff, I know

I think, if The Crazy can get MSN or everyone else can get AIM, we should just have meeting or something there. it would be alot easier in a window of msn messenger, or a chatroom in AIM.

I know I'm just randomly popping in but I'm wondering if I could be of any help.
I attached a quick map I created, please take a look I also included some pics for those without sketchup, please visit: http://http://web.mac.com/the_data/iWeb/iDevelop/Gallery.html
You'll notice that the first 2 pics are of the Smahs Bros. The others are just my past work to show my level of ability although please note ome of those models were done a long time ago so they may not be the greatest, I'll try to upload more of my current work soon.
And also, I have a .MAC account which gives me the privilege of creating 'groups' (basically mini forums/chatrooms made for teams of any kind. It cna have announcements, messages, calenders along with events such as team meetings etc. etc.) I think this would be cool for the project. So to sum up, I'm offering to help the team as a world modeller. I could maybe do some charecters(not so great at charecters) but also I could defianately do some weapons too.

I can draw up some concept art of characters I have thought of so far I have:

I was thinking a super-deformed style because that way more characters could be made quicker, poly counts could be lower, etc?

Zombie 20 (zombie?)
Xenocythe (hassassin a la Altaïr?)
Me (shinigami like Ichigo with longer hair)
Indi (little green guy in his avatar?)
Mnemonix (a modified DALEK?)
CattleRustler (his avatar)
Andrew Neale (tauron or manule)
Drew Cameron (Dumbo or Cool?)
The Crazy (A crazy creature?)

I'll get on it!

I've done most of them roughly so far (it hasn't been that long since I posted but yeah know...) I just probably need to clean them up and make Indi's and Zombie's look better, as they're the weakest right now. And of course the beautiful Benjamin.

Wow! This has really taken off! So... who's planning on being a programmer here? I know a lot of us are doing models, and level design and stuff, but not much on the programming side. I know I am an average programmer, and I've already once set up a 1v1 super smash type game, but there's no way I could do the whole multiplayer aspect. Cian, if I'm not mistaken, you're a programmer aren't you?

Anyway, still workin' on getting a domain and the offer is still up to run the website off there.

Programmer... hahahaha. I'm a 2D artist by nature, and if I focus long and hard (which I rarely do) I can program. Xeno can program, unless some of the things he has shown me are all fakes. <.<

Well, I found meh old code for a super smash type game. It's kind of crap but oh well

The file you'll want to open game2player.dbp and I'm real sorry, but it only works with a joystick. If anyone wants to change that feel free but it's programmed with joystick commands right now.

...now let's see if it'll upload!

[EDIT] You can select any character, but the only level that works is the one top left in the menu.

yea, i agree, meeting in a room would work much better. I'm glad to see this take off as well as it did.

Crazy, tell me what you need from me and i'll crank out whatever you want. I'm very flexible and willing to work on any part of this project, so long as i'm on it.

Things are looking good guys, keep up the good work. I'd offer to help program, but not sure how much help i'd be.

Didja try my demo? All the source is included you might be able to learn some from that. Then again, my coding style is terribly messy..

it's dbp, but shapes eh? So it didn't work at all? (ie tried clicking on the exe within the folder) or is it just messed up when you open the source?

its messed up when i open the source. Its just shapes, no code, it won't copy into darkbasic either.

its cool, i might not be able to play it, but i can still read it, hopefully. I'm retrying now. Unfortunaley in this case at least, i only have dbc. But then again, i really like classic, thinking of moveing to pro when i'm better in the first edition though.

here is what the code looks like

Hey, I've got a fully built and animated character of the drew cameron pirate (included in my demo engine if anyone cared to look) I made it for a game he was planning on making but it kind of didn't happen.

Yeah, but I think it would be better to make one of Cool or Dumbo because they would be more iconic?

Well I guess, but we could have it that Drew uses dumbo and cool to fight with
He could take dumbo by the feet and throw him into the opponent.

I realy love that this project is taking off and working. Cian thanks so much for the character concepts. It's great you can help out (Hassassin Xenocythe sounds awesome)

I can program and whatever, so just give me a job.

I think I should get a small engine up and running with cubes and what not. It'll help set everything up.

Thanks everyone for helping

What zombie and I were talking about earlier is, going step by step. First, making a fun lil' platerformer type game (sorta like the mission mode in brawl) where it's only against enemies. That way, we get a good foundation on our controls, teamwork, programming style/methods, and get pretty much the attack system down. Then the next step, making a version where 2-4 players could battle against each other with programmability for custom controls/joystick options. In this step we get a basis on how we want to make the multiplayer aspects of the game work. And finally, (though probably far in the future) have a working multiplayer setup for all to play. In the end we could have all three modes in one awesome game. We really shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves and this will help us go step by step as necessary.

On another note, I'm pretty close to buying the hosting for my site, it could be a good place to host our team website/forum so we may talk easier and show off what we've made. Any ideas on what I should call it?
