Hey guys! This sounds like a pretty cool idea. If you're going to use forum users I am currently modeling myself if that's okay. It's going to resemble my avatar kind of. I have the model and texture done and i just rigged it with my newly purchased milkshape and was wondering if you guys would want to animate him instead of me, since you guys know what animations you're going to need better than I am.

Here's a pic:

The claws are his weapons(no duh) the black stuff on the bottom is his super cool ninja garb. I can post the model up later or even better e-mail to one of you guys. I think i might want to use this model for a game hopefully.

Hope progress goes well!

I really don't mean to be offencive, but I don't think that model should be used. If this project is going to actually turn into something, it needs some sort of quality control. The model could easily be used as a base for a character in the game, but first it should be converted into concept art and then made by a more experienced modeler. I know that I'm actually serious about this project, and even though I have no plans to be the center or even make it my main focus, I want it to actually go somewhere. For that it needs a bit more dedication and a bit more seriousness. Please try and understand that there are actually some decent artist willing to draw and model for this.

I've made a quick drawing based off the model, and if you want a better one, I can spend a bit more time on it and do a better job, now that I've drawn it once. If you don't want it at all, just say so. but if we want to use Crazy Ninja, someone on the team should model him. I'm willing to do it if you wait a few weeks (we've got time, after all) when I'm less busy.

Edit: I forgot to draw the Ninja suit, so if you want to use it, I should probably redraw it anyways. It would come out a lot better also.

Edit2: I also forgot to mention that part of what makes Smash Bros Smash Bros is its great style. That's another reason there can only be a limited number of modelers, as everyone's style is different, and if there are too many all at the same time it becomes no style at all. If we were more professional, we would be able to model all in the same style, but unfortunately we're not.

Edit3: And of course this has NOTHING to do with that I keep offering to do concept art as Cian's isn't turning up, and yet don't seem to be getting anyone's attention.
Seriously, I can do caricatures anytime, or would at east like to know that help's not needed in that area.

Edit4: Maybe I'm setting a higher bar than everyone here, but I actualy was planning to seriously work on making to good models, and it kind of puts me off that you probably wouldn't mind if I only spent half an hour modeling one character rather than say ten hours which I was hoping to spend and use to improove myself.

Edit5: Oh, and don't forget: WE ACTUALY HAVE TO FIGURE OUT EVERYONE AND EVER GAME CHARACTER WE WANT TO USE BEFORE MAKING THEM.

Edit6: I've made a lot of edits... took a lot longer than drawing that pic

bizar guy- I'm going to start off by saying that is one sick drawing, i love it man. I too am serious about this project and i want to see this succeed. And at the same time, i realize that only a few people's styles will make the final cut, which makes it so unbearable for me to read all this.

If it were up to me, i'd accept anything people throw at me, but i cant' becasue i'm not the leader and don't have the skills to be the leader, and i'm quite happy with my position.

Although, i have no say in the modelling field, i'm a complete amatuer, i hope that we can include this entry. We'll see what develops.

Just want to let you know, you haven't been forgotten.

keep up the good work.

@Bizar Guy - Just to let you know i threw that model together in about a half hour to an hour. If you would like i could rework a lot him and do lot better job with your pic. Right now i have time to kill and would like to have another go, now that i know you guys want a good model. I also realize what you mean about that style, the game would look strange with the different styles of each artist. If the style of the better model I hope to make doesn't fit in, that's ok with me. Good luck guys and I'll hopefully be back with some progress!

Let Bizar do the art. School and other things are getting hectic and with the fact that my scanner takes forever to scan one image I just can't find the time to get them to you guys. And plus Bizar is a better artist. =)

But I would still like Longhaired, Shinigami Cian to be in the game.

Maybe, come summer time, I can contribute more...

I hope you guys can get this off the floor i would love to see this happen.

Also about the comments on the concept levels shown, i think they would work greatly in a party fighter type game. If you've ever played SSBM then you can see how they look very similar, and the semi closed in areas would be accent the fighting well by separating multiple fights. The only comment i could have to improve on them would have to be implemented in the game, as the levels in SSBM are very interactive.

Really hope this goes somewhere!

Alright, I guess I'm in charge of the drawing now...

So far I know what to draw for Cian, Crazy Ninja, and myself, though I have no clue if any will be in the game. We need a list of which forum members will be characters, and if they have any preference to how they look, or would like to leave it to me. And then of course there are games characters, which while they only need concept art if we plan to remodel them (which we might want to, seeing as they they'll all will have very different styles), do need to be put on a list.

I propose a max of 20 characters (a MAX mind you), split fairly evenly between forum members and db game characters. Also, we should need to be very careful about who the forum members are... we have to realize that we can only include a certain number. Also, we need to get the consent of the users in question. Then, after I draw their first concept sketch, we need to make sure they approve of it.

I'm going to e-mail the Crazy, to see what's up.

nice plan bizar, keep up the good work, how is everyone else doing on their part of the project? May I see a list of what's been done?

I'll start mine

Concepts for basics done - 8 levels ready as templates

Waiting for final list of characters, then i can design character "unique" levels.

Good good, i'm glad to see everyone is enthusiastic about this. I'm not sure whats going on with crazy, *could be school or he might be sick* no matter, the show must go on until he comes back, don't want to let him down.

True we have to cap how many forum users/db characters we allow to be in the game. Does anyone have suggestions for who will be making apperances in the game. So who are the main attractors of this forum, who will be crowned the champion. Once we have the final list, i can write up bios on the forum user's.

Also what items would you all like to use. I know its early, but whats wrong with starting with some excitement.

I think the people we definetly need to have are:

Crazy
Bizar
Andrew
Zombie
Me

Thats already 5, leaving room for 15 more.

So...
1. We make the list
2. Bizar draws concepts
3. Me and whoever else would like to will model

ANd in the meantime of all this me and Andrew and whoever else are working on the engine.

thanks for the nice comments on my map guys

also we now need to start deciding on the uniqueness of each character as well as what maps we would like. Currently we have:

Crazy
Bizar
Andrew
Zombie
Xenocythe

I would also like to add myself to the list if that's okay. Also, we should use characters from games.

For maps here are my ideas:

A forest/treehouse map (kind of like what I have)
A concrete/crate like map (like the one I have)
A Space map
A Water/Boat Map
A Medieval Castle Map
A fire/lava map
Perhaps some kind of sky/cloud map
Also, we need maps to serve as 'homes' to each character. For example, a character that is a very dark and shady person should probably have a similar home map. It would be cool if characters playing in their 'home' map would have some kind of advantage.

Obviously though, we would have to set a limit. I would really like your opinions on my ideas above, especially you Zombie, since I think you're also doing the world modeling right?

Data- First off, i really like your concept drawings, they're well done and presented in a way that says "smash bros." So lets address the issues that are on us right now.

How many levels should we cap?-Thats really a choice between how many you and i and anyone else are willing to make, i wouldn't mind having about fifty maps, but that is a lot of work to do. I like where you're going with the different maps, you're keeping it simple but fun, which is what smash was so great at utilizing.

Homefield Advantage-Once again, this would be great to have in the game, though its not essential, it would certainly make multiplayer really fun. I don't know if a lot know, but in smash multiplayer, first player had an advantage over everyone else, two player over third etc... I'm all for it, maybe show a little greeting before the match, or show the character being "beefed" up.

Level Designs-Like i said above, i love where you're going with the designs, you're doing a great job, keep it up. As far as i know, i'm rendering the designs in 3d, i'll always accept help, although my schedule is pretty open so i do have a lot of time to work on them. I also have VanSeam for dbc, so i can create textures and load them into the objects from milkshape so we can have a graphical 3d showcase of our levels.

However, something that i want to bring to attention with the level designs, will there be animations of things going on in the background specific to the levels? I know part of the frantic action was all the players moving around and the background playing a role in the fighting sometimes. Just something i was wondering if we were going to do. I don't want to put a strain on the animators though, you guys have enough to do as it is.

As far as its going, I like it, keep up the good work.
ps. who else wants to make a sound file for chants and cheers?

Alright, i hope i didn't type too much and i hope i answered your question and have my input. Let me know if you want to talk about anything else.

I think i'll start on some of the levels tonight.

cheers mate.

A few things on my mind:

a) Firstly, your mention of background animation, it would be possible although I'm no artist really, someone else would have to do it.

b) I can possibly do some sound/music work although I'm pretty new at it, I'll give it a shot though.

c)For the map cap, we'll have to see what everyone else says but I'd have no problem with making 50. it would take time but it would be cool.

So I'll keep working on some maps k?

Cheers
