Hello again, I am trying to learn to make a simple side scrolling 2d shooter but I don't know where to start, I can't even get a simple box on the screen, I honestly don't remember c++ based nwscript being anywhere near this hard to learn, is there any tips for creating games in 2d particulaly 2d shooters?

Any tutorials about how sprites work in a 2da environment would also be good, I could'nt really find anything for that.

to start with i recommend to make it using 3d objects (bare with me). If you make a plane and texture it with the character image then you have your person looking 2d but its an object. I will elaborte in a bit im quite busy right now.

Can anyone elaborate on what Big Man suggested, or help me out a bit here because my brain is hurting.

The main problems I am having are positioning the camera, and objects, so if theres any tutorials on camera/object positioning or if someone wants to explain how it works exactly that would be great, bare in mind that I really wanted this to be 2d, but 3d is fine if it can be made to look 2d, any help is much appreciated, I am at a loss here.
