Hello there. I've decided to make my own little 3D contest based on the realease of the new movie Ice Age 2.

To gather interest, i'm giving away a prize of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown on DVD to one lucky winner. (its a brand new copy... no second hand stuff)

The Rules are simple:

1.Create a character that you would think to find in an ice age. It can be anything you want. Aslong as it looks like it could have existed in an Ice Age

2.You have to own a DVD Player that can play region 2 DVDs. Im sorry if this causes any problems.

3.No poly limit and no limit on render techniques.

4.You can use any demos of software, you dont have to own the full version of the software to use it.

5.All 3D media you use must be your own. Textures which aren't yours are allowed.

Contest starts today and ends on the 1st of December... which gives you all pleanty of time.

Cheers!

Interesting, do you get extra points for scenes/backgrounds or just for the actual character itself?

completed scenes would probably make it look better. But there is no harm just nabbing one of the icy scenes from ice age and using that as a background. The voting will be a community vote. So if you have time then go for it!

I might just enter this one. I haven't had any time to model recently cause of work, but with a few quiet weeks coming up, I might just be able to squeeze out a few models.

This should be fun.

Mmmm...I started WIP...it's purty...I'm just working out how it smooths so it looks...better. After I have the polys worked out as I want, I'll start the dreaded part...UV MAPPING AND TEXTURING. Scariest thing happening for me around Halloween this year

The rules don't actually state that the entry has to be 3D...Lol!
I may actually enter this. I suck at modelling but there is a prize! This will be the first 3D compo I'll enter.

If your comp has a DVD player most DVD programs will set it to the region of the DVD, if like mine it will only let you do it a few times (How I saw the Spongebob Movie at home before it was out in the UK ) But there are ones you can download/buy for your comp.

hmmm..., I could use my computer but if it dosn't work I have another dvd laying around the house that i can't use. On the other hand, I could always sell it.
I might as well try it.

All that's left is to make the teeth smooth better, and then UV Map and texture with MGI Photosuite I like my sabre-dog, think it's my best organic model to date.

How dare you? Cola and Pepsi are different enough that I prefer Cola, however I will admit they are both good when you want soda.

Isn't the difference the carbon content or something? I think Pepsi is better than Coca Cola, but Dr Pepper rules all

Usally that's the case, I personally think Pepsi is the one higher in carbon dioxide, but I love them both

Yes, Pepsi is UBER carbonated. Part of the turn off for me Carbonation is good and all, but there's a limit. If it feels like my tongue is burning from all the bubbles...thats a bit much To each his own.

Sounds like a lot of fun, i'm in. Now i hope i can acutally make the model without procratinating like i do for everything else. You know that could be quite a bit for shipping if someone in the U.S or anywhere else in the world.

@The Crazy
Your model looks kinda like a long-necked plesiosaurus, which i'm pretty sure did not exist in the ice age as it was a Jurrasic reptile. Other than that though, the model looks realy good.

Oh I was just trying to go along something like the two reptillian water monsters in ice age 2. Sorry.

@Biggadd: Will this be able to be an entry, or am I breaking the rules?

I didn't mean strictly for ice age. i just want people to make up mythical beasts. that YOU think you'd find in an ice age.

so yes it will be fine. sorry if my rules are a little rubbish.

In the miraculous and rare occurance that I happen to win this one, I'll be unable to recieve the DVD. My mom has issues with distributing my address, or any real information for that matter.

Heres my WIP;

Untextured, just needs some tweeking on the face and then he's off to UV mapping. Though the legs need some touch ups as well (smoothing always messes stuff up).

Dang not bad. And why not just try creatively beveling the legs, because that's the only part that looks particularly "sharp". And while the compo doesn't require low polygon count, it's always a good practice.

Ofcourse;

760 polygons.

And yeah I mentioned about the legs, I gave them a fix up so they dont look as "lego-block"ish, along with fixing the feet and adding the ears;

Actually, RUCCUS could enter his model into the contest. It doesn't say come up with something that could have existed in the Ice Age. But I quote:

Quote: "Create a character that you would think to find in an ice age. It can be anything you want. Aslong as it looks like it could have existed in an Ice Age"

And my interpretation of that, is create as in model. COrrect me if I'm wrong, but his model coujld very well have been found in an ice age.
