Is there a way to remove items from the library that are not used?

Thanks

Nope, and it's pretty frustrating.

uhm I may know an unofficial way to remove unwanted items from your library once you already put them on the map.... But I don't totally suggest this...

When you got your map setup and noticed that you added models your not wanting over there "for whatever reason we can call this part mass confussion"

Okay what you do to get rid of the unwanted models that you selected. Save your game then for me I just go ahead and close my FPSC all together

Next open your windows explorer and goto your FPSC directory
C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator\Files
Now depending on what it is you put in your library this is where we remove it ie your segment or entity folder now remember you can remove it or you can put the files somewhere else on your HD as a backup until we can replace it at a later time.

Then restart your FPSC load your map poof there gone those models you used to see wont be there...
Now I have done this several times on several maps and it has not degrade my mapping on FPSC at all...

But I only state that this has worked for me and I have not told anybody else about this so I can not guarantee this will work for you...

Have you downloaded your CLiPs today.

CLiPs ,

I don't understand. When you save a map, the program creates a mapbank file. It stores all of the information about your map and what entities/etc you have in it.

How do remove the unwanted items and from where exactly.

he is talking about removing the entity/segment files from your FPSC directory itself.
Then when you load your map, it gives a warning about 'missing files' or something but continues loading the map minus the unwanted/unadded segments and entities.

I have used that sometimes, but its a pain in the rear to do that with all segments and entities which are not needed.

Ok, I understand now. What about when you build....any errors there?

wait, if nobody else can do it, i must be thinking about something else, are you guys talking about deleting entities and that stuff from the library if you don't use it in your level?

Yeah, the things that get stuck in the library even though you have deleted them from the level.

This would be a great little utility for someone to make.

When you build the game you can also delete the files from the built game folder.
The problem is if you delete the wrong thing in either case you c ould have bigger problems than the extra entities.
I recommend the safest (and, unfortunatly, most time consuming) way.
Add an entity or whatever a little at a time and test your level to see if it is what you are wanting.
If not, just exit FPSC and load the level again.
Since you did not save the new media it will not be there.
I am hoping sometime that one of TGC's upgrades will address this issue.
I agree with xplosys. This would be a uber utility.

It's definitely a lack in FPSC. If you don't pay attention to what you're doing you can easily end up with a large level and not even half of the stuff in it is used.

It would be great if someone could create an utitily for it, it would be even better if TGC just fixes this annoyance we're all facing.

Carrara (one of the modelings applications I do use for my comics) has a cool option called 'remove all unused items from library', FPSC should have something like that.

TGC has not updated the interface, only the engine so far. I thought of writing a utility to do this but, I just have to think that as soon as they work on the interface this will be fixed. Other than that I have to say that the interface is the best I have ever seen.

A delete item from the library and the ability to rotate the layout would be two things I would love to see.

Tschwarz - as much as I love "Signs3" - and I love "Signs 3" - I suspect I'd love a delete-item-from-library utility possibly even more.

Is there any suggestion that TGC are planning on interface updates at a future point? If not, I know I'd purchase an application that did this job the second it was released. Its lack does seem something of a massive oversight.

I appreciate what FredP suggests concerning reloading a level without saving changes if the added media doesn't quite fit, but that really breaks up the flow of working on a game, I think.

huh?

When i was making my game, i kept a list of everything that i used

Then i built the game

and deleted extraneous files.

if you mean a utility to do that automatically for you, i agree.

@tschwarz

I already wrote an app to do it, but unfortunatly, the enhancement pack cant save FPM files with fileblocks, only zips...so untill that gets fixed, i guess it will remain on my hd(unless you know a way around).

My program lets you add/remove items from an item list directly from the FPM, but the problem is i cant resave an fpm from it because of the "UPDATE" which was really a downgrade in my oppinion.

for those of you wanting to do this by hand, i dont suggest it, but im 90% sure i know how.

if you unzip the fpm, there is a .ent file, and that has relative paths and item names, which my app reads and can remove....
