I see that the .x format does support mesh deformation, cshop for example seems to export animated meshes to .x. So why when im using any of my varios 3d packages and exporting to .x . does it only keep position and rotation animation and not model/mesh deformation?

depends on how it exports the x file.
it might be exporting in your package without skin and bone features.

Doh, omg, revelation! I thought .x suported any vertex or mesh animation, not realising all deformative forms of mesh animation HAVE to be done with some kind of bones system...
they dont tell you these things....
