I thought since it was an open source project, and the whole blackout project is kinda having a re-model i'd let the forum decide who the first character i will be modelling is going to be. so here's what i'd like:

- throw suggestions at me, who or what type of thing would you like to play as, running around shooting stuff? outrageous suggestions are very welcome. i'm aiming at timesplitters style randomness.

- I'll then pick a few out that i really like, and put it to a vote.

- after that i'll draw up some different concepts for your choice of character, let you all decide which one.

-and then ill make it out of the human character i just made yesterday

-i'll also leave the naming of the character up to everyone.

I already started a base model as i said, and tried to do it as proffesionally as possible, so i can hopefully use it time and again to make different characters for this game and others.

Pretty cool. I don't know much about proportion and whatnot but it looks pretty good to me

Nice base model, really got a lot of character to it already which is very important. I'm not too familiar with the BlackOut setting, but it would be cool to see some heavy armored aliens. I know there are a lot of games coming out in the near future which such creatures.. but they're cool non-the-less. Perhaps something quite similar to the aliens in Gears of war for the Xbox 360.

any suggestions for characters you'd like to see running around, killing each other ...

fat, thin, tall, small, sci-fi, modern day, human, alien, mutant.
what would you want to play as?

[edit] @ johnny ree- cheers, i shall have a look, sounds interesting.

I'd like to see some midieval peasants with guns running around blwoing each others heads off.

Also, about that model, it looks pretty good but i would watch out for the hip to torso, and shoulder to torso verts. Hips mostly, but the shoulders will be fine if you do a nice workaround.

yeah you're right oddmind, it looks fine static, but it'll go screwy if i try to animate it, problem is, when you animate in blender the skin doesn't really stretch like in real life, you just have to move whole groups of vertices around, i wish there were a way to tell it:

when i move this limb, i want these vertices to move completely, and these ones just a little.

Yeah, it would be better to wait till the actual character is done. Making things animation ready while mocking up the character slows down the work-flow. So this is very nice for a base, once you've got a mock-up of the actual character you can start thinking about muscle edge-loops and so on which will aid the character when bending and twisting.

ok, basically i'm screwing that whole idea about lots of people throwing suggestions at me, that was never going to happen. instead, as i do want to see peasants with pitchforks being slaughtered by an advanced alien race with plasma rifles, im going to do both ideas. woo. but i'm going to be away for 2 days, so ill update later..

before i leave, here's a concept i'll be thinking about all weekend, it will go with johnny ree's heavily armoured alien suggestion.

i call it the 'switchblade'
