How can you change the distance the player is before he doesn't hear the steam decal? I can be 5 rooms away and still hear the steam. How can you stop the noise of steam when the player leaves that particular room?

The only way I know to do it is to remove the steam sound from the decal file, and add a sound zone/s with the steam sound assigned where you want to hear it. The problem with that is the sound will stop as soon as you exit the zone; it will not get weaker as you move away so you will have to stop it at a door or corner.

If you really want to get crazy, you can record steam sounds at progessively lower levels and assign them to sound zones as you move away.

Best.

So it's either

a/. Be able to hear the steam from 'miles' away as it gets quieter.
b/. Have the sound suddenly cut off, with no weaker sound.
c/. Have no steam
d/. Go out and record a steam train!

Hmmm....

Someone else may have a better fix... hopefully.

3dsound... I think... half works. But there is an easier way.

I know you can set 'sound intensity' or 'volume' with scripts... just not certain of the command but... (perhaps the soundscale command?)

simply doing

:plrdistwithin=100:sound=$1,soundscale=25
:plrdistwithin=75:sound=$1,soundscale=50
:plrdistwithin=50:sound=$1,soundscale=75
:plrdistwithin=25:sound=$1,soundscale=100

(unless I am wrong on the usage of 'soundscale')

This is not just a problem with steam, but all soundloops. It is frusturating how a sound will sound the same from a certain distance even if there are a few walls in the way.

On a later version of FPSC, I don't think sound should be able to penetrate walls so easily.
