Hey guys.

Sorry if this has been posted before but I just need some information on setting up a render farm. First off, I have 8 machines I can use for the farm and I have done some Google reasearch. The problem is, I can't find any information on actually setting up the farm and using it. Does anybody have any articles on this or want to share how you made yours if you have one?

Thanks.

3d studio max has a built in render feature from version 7 and up if i recall.
paying for a license for max will set you back a pretty penny.
3ds max has a client and server application, we did it at Brilliant image for a shopping centre 3d flyby.

if you want to do it with linux you should check out boinc.
Its probably more hassle then its worth unless your dedicated.

OSX has a feature called Xgrid but it requires a fibre optical network or infini band for it to work correctly.

Povray can do it as well in linux from memory.

asking in a gaming forum probably means your very early in the days of thinking about it.

My friend has Maya 6. (I think that's the version he's got...)

Thats the first place I looked. It's a good article, but it's a little hard to understand because it's so "generalized". It doesn't really dig to deep into detail, and I'm new with networking so it doesn't really help.

Thanks anyway. Anyone else got some advice?
