Hello,
I just bought electronic version of DB, but I want to know,

Which one is faster DB or DBPro?
Can programs created for DB work in DBPro (will they need any modifications)?
And is it worth it to upgrade to DBPro?

Is it possible to map a sphere with exact map (like map of earth)?

Thanks for help!

DBPro is much faster.

Most programs created for DB need modification to work because of bugs, or obsolete commands.

In my opinion, DBPro is worth it. If you just bought DB, then I would stay with it for a while.

You can map any object. Try a program like Lithunwrap or UVMapper.

I don't know all of them, but texture backdrop is one. I'm not sure why its obsolete, but the compiler wont let wou use it and it is really annoying. Some are obsolete because of the way DBPro does things, for example using plains for sprites. Also some don't work due to bugs that haven't been fixed yet, but will be in later patches. These aren't really a problem. I have only had trouble with these two. There are many ways around them.

What do you mean by "electronic version"? Did you actually pay or just download a demo?

I downloaded a trial, then downloaded a demo, then payed and it installed as full version..

I'm experienced asm/c/delphi programer, always wanted to create my 3d games, started like probably 10 of them, but because of amount of work never finished anything more then demo

Now I think I could really use DB to create something..

But I'm in doubt start coding now then switch to DBPro or buy it now and forget about it..

I think from DBPro I only need speed, particle effects (could be written), and I don't know how good DB handles mapping to a sphere, like when you get close to a planet in space..

Thanks,
mhack

Its not just the obsolete commands, many commands work differently.

Personally I love Pro, and would recommend it to any1, but if you've only just bought classic ya might wanna play with that for a while. Its still a great product capable of cool results, just not quite as cool (or fast) as Pro

Can you tell me how hard it would be to transfer my game to DBPro if I'll start develop it in DB?

If it would be a question of a few syntax corrections and etc, it's one case, but if to migrate to DBPro I would need to completly overhual everything I might just buy DBPro?

BTW, where I can download utilities from (free ones that allow to map multiple textures on the same object? Like 6 textures on each side of the cube?

Thanks..

I'll do a few experiments with DB tonight, to see if main things I'll be using in my space game will work..

I want to test how it maps spheres, how it handles object in object (like colliding cubes) etc..

It depends on how much you have done in DB. If you started and RPG about 1000 lines long, it will take a very long time. Smaller programs can be converted quicker. It also depends on the type of game. It has to be done by hand. I don't think there are an converters.

Some good programs to texture are UVMapper or Ultimate/Lithunwrap. I'm not sure where to download. Search on google.

Thanks guys for replys.

I probably will order DBPro in a few days, just to have full speed etc.

I have a question, do you think I should order some kind of package like DBPro + Canvas + Cartographer

Are those usefull things?
I'm also thinking of buying 1 mapping program like UVMapper..

Tell me what worth the money?

I'm planning on creating "elite" type game with space travel and planetary travel (also some interior aka room to room play).

I tested a few things in DB classic - I'm impressed It handles stuff some much better then my own engines Like intersecting objects and sphere with texture..

Can't imaging how DBPro could be better
