Ok, I'll bite. What is HDR?

All I could find is this....

Quote: "HDR stands for high dynamic range and refers to an image, which contains a very large degree of exposure or brightness values. Such an image cannot be printed on paper or displayed on a screen, as these media do not have sufficient range, but the data recorded by an HDR image is a much closer representation to the range of brightness levels perceived in the real world and is a very powerful tool for the 3D visualiser.
"

You can't be talking about this, though.

HDR is almost like a fancy bloom feature - but more complicated. And no, FPSC does not have it. Look at the sourece engine for that

HDR doesn't really have anything to do with bloom, it just makes these effects look better.

I imagine FPSC X10 might have this feature.

It's hard to explain, it's not bloom - but it isn't just 'better' - it's all about lighting and something about simulating an effect of the human eye...

HDR is a method for accurately displaying real world lighting.

HDR essentially allows you to have a much finer graduation between the light and dark parts of an image, resulting in a more realistic scene.

It makes effects like bloom and reflections look better as a result. It's got nothing directly to do with bloom. It's really just simulating the real-world potential of the human eye, not just an effect.

You can have bloom on a non-hdr image, it just won't look as good.

So, it is perfectly reasonable to say it's just better.

At least in half life 2, Hdr is high dynamic range which is a lighting effect. For example. If you look up at the sun your screen will be preatty much white. and if you look down at the ground it should be a little dark.

I do not think that FPSC has this feature.

FPSC doesn't include HDR or bloom, what HDR does is if you lets say look at the sun the iris in your eye closes because there is too much light and if you look in a dark room it opens more, thats what HDR does in games it show the eye reacting to the light.
