Hey guys,

I was looking at some Wings work on their site and it looks excellent! I have a quick question though. Can models created in Wings 3D be exported to DirectX format for use in DBPro?

Wings has a 3ds exporter, which you can use in DBP.

Hmmmmm....I thought all models in DBPro had to be DirectX. Guess not.

Thanks.

DBP can use .3ds, but its really slow at loading it. But no problem.

there are actually a lot of problems with some files in the 3ds format. A lot of programs that export have issues because of the file structure it exports, not really DBP.

the speed of files goes like this

3ds , blegh
x , getting there
DBO , yummy fast

you can use DBP to convert model data from one to the other with load and save, just remember you might have to carry the texture across and load it as well.

Indi, question there. I'm not too famaliar with the DBO file system. Is it possible to convert .X to .DBO? In that line of thinking, would it be better to convert all models in a game to .DBO before finishing it, so it would increase performance / load times?

there is a converter floating around, you should also be able to use code but manually re loading textures.

performance load times are like a volkswagen compared to a tricked out porsche.
