Its easiest if you open a FILE called LPT1: (or sometimes LPT1), for writing...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

i tried that but my printer isn't connected to a LPT port. i have a USB connection for my printer. i also wanted a "universal" print, so that it wouldn't be limited to a single port

I presume USB0 wont work then... I'm sure someone will be able to do a DLL (or you could try yourself), if you ask very nicely... Using the printing system in Windows is a real pain...

Thanx, I tried USB1 (what I use) and it locked my system up. Plus that isn't universal, like a DDL would be or could be.
Well I would write my own but I don't have the software to write in another language and I’d have to learn another language on top of that. I was hoping someone else had already went through this and could pretty please with sugar on top help (-: (do you think that is nice enough? (-: )
Yes the print system in windows is very restrictive, but I have no idea how it could have been better

Would direct printing to a printer (where you give the printer name, data and size) be suitable ? The advantage is that its much easier to do...

well i had tried to send the info i wanted to print to different aplications like text or word and then print that. kinda like in reg DB using the save bitmap and printing the bitmap. the draw back to using DB and printing the bitmap is that it prints the background, wasting ink and time. (even white prints because its not really white)
if i send my information to another aplication and print that aplication i am limited my the line length limitations in DBPro and i can't place the text anywhere on the page.
i'm not sure how i could call up my printer directly, wouldn't it need an aplication? but i think i would still have the DBPro line limitation? not sure here

I've got a Direct Printing system DLL up & running. There are some crevats with it :

A) Its only for local printers - it wont work with network printers
B) There is no text positioning, and it uses the printers currently active font.

Its being a real pain - it wont output anything on my Samsung laser printer (mainly because there's no form feed button and it doesn't seem to want to process escape codes). It looks like the proper way will be through the printer dialog box...
