I was looking through some sites for a 3D character to use for a test when a came across some X files, though, they were not animated X files. I was wondering what I can do to animate them.

Thank you.

Well when we animate models, we use 3d modeling software.

You have to insert bones into the model, just like a skeleton. Then the model can be animated
After inserting the bones you then need to create Keyframes (done in 3d modeling software). Key frames are just like taking photos, you position the model say at key 1 and capture this position you then move the model to the next position say raise arm up slightly. Then capture this position say at key 15 then, the modeling software will fill in the blanks from 2-14 with the various positions.
Make a note of the frames 1-15 arm going up then you can play in DB
16-30 could be a different animation and so on. You can to up to 1000 frames.
You'll might need some software to convert it from .x to a format you’re modeling software can understand and back again afterwards, Unless of course you’re modeling software can handle .x files..

Also be aware that moving the bones will distort the model, so you will have to learn about weight mapping etc. But if you get to that point well that’s another lesson...

Uhm.. Could anyone suggest a good model maker? The models that I have are already posed, all they need is to be linked together into a animation.

Depends on your budget. If you have a low budget, get MilkShape (just search for it at google, I know it'll come up). If you have a decent budget, get Caligari trueSpace 6 (www.caligari.com, about $600, me and the other zealot's use this). And you have a crap load of cash get 3D Studio Max or LightWave or something. If you're a genius use CAD (lol).

Good luck.

I don't know how good it is, yet. But there's a free modeller called Anim8or on the web somewhere. You'll something else to turn them from 3ds (or whatever you export as) to X.

I am using "trueSpace6.0." If it is free software, there is "trueSpace3.2." It can come to hand by "www.cnet.com." It is possible if it is easy animation. The model of animation is created by such software. It can do, if it specifies that animation is included with the X-Files output.

I'm so sad, it's like someone has to hold my hand through everything I do. I still can't get these X files animated. These animaters and model makers arn't helping. There too complex for me.. I'm trying to look for something that can take X files, place them by each other, animate them then save it.. If thats even possible.

...Well, Milkshape is the easiest animator using bones I've seen, once you get into the routine of things. I have a question, is it possible to save an animation as a .x file, and then have different models run it in DBPro, without using Milkshape to assign the bones to the vertices??

It introduces one of the methods of my having learnt animation.
I downloaded Help of DarkBasicV113.
I found Walk.X of Basic3D that existed in Help.
I opened it with the CG software for animation.
To become it as well as the state, I create it by myself.
I recognized that a lot of problems of not understanding were the usages of the CG software.
