As some of the older forum members may know, the holidays on the FPSC boards can get quite hectic.

I've created this thread to remind the older users as well as to inform the younger ones of what the holidays mean to FPSC.

First off, many, many children will receive FPSC in the following weeks, and with them will come new forum users asking newcomer questions. lets keep in mind that these boards are a very different place than they were last december, so I (and im almost positive the other moderators will also) Will be keeping an eye on everything going on.

Just because someone is new, or there are many newcommers at one time, doesnt mean that its OK to be rude or step out of line. We will need to inform these newcommers of the rules, and set examples for them, not flame them to death for asking a simple question.

We will be just as strict as we always have been, the rules still need to be upheld, but im asking the users to remember the difference on this forum from last december until now, and to make sure it doesnt end up like that again. Moderators can only do so much, the rest is up to the users to make this an enjoyable place for the young and old alike.

I think we take turns...
We can have a Grinch for a Day program.
I am absloutely positive that all our forum members will get into the holiday spirit and get along with each other and we will have one big group hug.

See we've got it all wrong here. Anybody can sign up and have a confirmation E-Mail posted to them in seconds with a link. This should be changed a little.

I realise that FPSC is a popular toy for kids but allowing them to simply wartz in and post "newcomer" post is not really a healthy thing for this forum to do.

What we need is instead of a confirmation E-mail with an activation link, i link to a sort of guide video of how to use the forum respectfully and properly. How many times have we seen the poor search button neglected? How many topics have we encountered with something along the lines of "I want free models, i can't pay but do them and i'll be greatful"? How many times have we witnessed the stickies ignored?

Stickies don't work because people have a choice to read them. I agree that the probationary period is a good idea but i doesn't stop to gross neglect of the forum rules. I'd like to thank the Mods who have done a fantastic, if not a little over-zelous, job at keeping the forum clean. However, i agree with BULLSHOCK that the mods can only do so much.

My solution is the video that would be compulsary if you wanted activation...somehow. Perhaps, the video could be imbedded into the activation page or something.

It's just an idea, but i think would save a lot of hair-loss and high blood pressure, not just at Christmas but anytime.

Good luck mods...i don't envy your job...

AE- perhaps they could have it in the TOS of the forums... Before it sends the activation! Perhaps you could do it in flash and have the link to countinue at the end of the movie.

on one of the forums I had joined..(dont remember which one), the newcomer had to go through a few stickies.
He was then sent an email in which he had to answer 10 questions. Obviously, the questions where such that he would have had to read the stickies well enough to be able to answer well.

Then the mods can judge his ...er..newbness according to his answers.

This may delay the registration a bit, but ensures that :
1. people dont sign up just to have a quick answer to a stupid question
2. people read the whole stickies before they are even registered
3. only the serious ones will go through all that trouble filtering out the casual surfers from posting requests and such.

Let's all hold hands and sing a chorus of "Newbies Roasting on an Open Fire".

The forum provides a means to hide our true identity. Too bad we always screw up and let it be seen.

my brother in law was born on Christmas day... he hates it cause he gets gypped when it comes to presents... "This is a birthday/christmas present combined"

I was born on the same day -but not year- as John Major (for those of you in England who are old enough to know who he is)

'Dawn of the Fallen Angel' coming soon(ish)...

Right; let me just mark that down on my calendar, so I don't forget: "...newb-slap Jon Fletcher on Christmas Day..."

All set.

I may actually try and make this video.

"If you disobey the rules, you will face counsequences:

(n00bs roast in an open fire as their eye pop and sizzle on the flames, a group of choral-singing long-time members gather)"
