I'm looking for a way to make realistic water like the one in 3dMark (both 2001 and 03). I think that it's a vertex shader. DBS should make some tutorials about vertex and pixel shaders!
This is what I want:

your kindof asking for the impossible. that pic is a rendered image. if you were to put that quality of water into realtime 3d, it would slow down the game speed by a ton.

This image is from a realtime 3d app! It's a benchmark app called 3dmark03. Go on http://www.futuremark.com and see with your eyes. Anyway I don't want a scene like this: I only want to do a water like it (or the one in UT2003, it's good)!

P.S.: sorry 4 my bad english :-(

Are you serious?!?! that looks like it would be too many polygons to render for realtime apps. im gunna check that website out.

It's realtime but it isn't very fast: I get 12 to 25 fps on this benchmark with my Radeon 9500@9800r300 and an Athlon XP 2200+ :-s

There is an ocean water shader in U5.

Be aware that Vertex and Pixel shaders are complex beasts and you need to know a lot before you can achieve even a little.

The advantage of P5 is that other people's shaders can be applied with minimum effort.

grrr crummy graphics card doesn't support special pretty effects that dbpro can create

You know whats weird???
Donald duck never wore pants, yet everything time he got out of the shower he put a towel around his waist...
Whats with that???
