First off I did do a search and checked every thread and I checked the manual but skyboxes are barely mentioned in the manual. The posts were pretty sketchy and had no info on adjusting skyboxes, if you can that is. I used the rather excellent utility Skies to build one. Took some effort and creativity in Photoshop to do what I was after. I had several problems though which were disheartening.

First you are hovering in the middle of the skybox so maybe the top quarter is useful. Is there anyway to adjust the skybox position? It seems like there is because I found a post that showed the groundplane that was at the same level as the bottom of the skybox.

Also for some reason the top of the skybox was several shades lighter than the sides. This definately happened in FPSC. Kind of a related problem it's a nightsky and the ambient seemed really strong. Not sure if that can be adjusted.

Thanks. The default night sky seems to work well I was just after more of a starry night.

FPSC has a skyboxes folder.
Inside you will find a night skybox.

I've been using that one. I actually mention it in the post. I was just wondering if there was anyway to adjust imported ones? The information is pretty sketchy out there. I've had good luck with most imports but the results on the imported skybox were pretty poor. I can live with the default night sky I was just trying to see if I could do something myself.

I solved one problem. I haven't a clue how it happened but the top of the box was lighter in Photoshop. Bizzare considering how I did it.

Still can't figure out how to move the skybox. I've seen it done so it must be possible. There aren't any coordinates anywhere that I can find and there's no positioning in the build games settings.

why would it need moving?

Thanks

If you see the lower part of the skybox it looks like you are a thousand feet in the air. I did see someone's post where they very obviously had placed ground tiles at the same level, or close to it, as the bottom of the skybox. I added a treeline to the upper part of the sky box and it seems to give the effect I want. I just have to be careful not to look over a wall that surrounds the upper level. I was planning a gate so I may have to build a little scenes outside but I was assuming I'd have to do that anyway. I did solve my other problems. I came up with a way between Skies and Photoshop to do seamless skyboxes it just takes a little fiddling. I wish skyboxes supported 1024X1024. I did a starry night and the corners look great but the stars on the flat surfaces go fuzzy. I can live with it but it does kill the effect a bit. Clouds are more forgiving.

I repainted the edge and the problem went away. The odd thing is none of it was true black. Strange. At least it solved the problem.
