Hiho,

I've been trying to make Lightmaps in Cinema 4D for quite a while now. The only thing I managed to do is to render the shadows directly on the texture, but that only works if the texture isn't tiled. But unfortunately the texture is tiled in most cases.

For example I made this simple world, 3 boxes forming the wall and 3 cylinders forming some kind of pipe:

(Sorry for German names)

There are two lights, one normal white one and a red one.

How can I generate a good lightmap now, best in only one picture? And how do I import the Lightmap to DarkBasic? (I know how to export and import textured models from C4D to DB, but not how to apply a lightmap or whatsoever)

(I would also appreciate links to other threads if this topic was already discussed before.)

Thanks!

mfg

Or another questions: Are/Is actually (a) C4D User/s here? And if yes, did he/she/it/they ever made a lightmapped level?

I am a Cinema 4D user...except I own the version before 'light mapping' was available, also, I assume you mean baker. There should be baker tutorials around. I'd also reach out for general baker info, as such tools as Maya, 3DSMax, Lightwave, Blender and Softimage|XSI are all capable of it.

From my general 3D knowledge, I might be able to answer this question:

This is because baking does bake itself into a texture, so if you have a tiled texture, it would be impossible to bake itself, because the UV coordinates would repeat over the same texture, its liking normal mapping a tiled object. So if you want to bake, you would need to set a UVMap for each object and/or your environment and a single texture for each group/object, which is where there is an advantage with lightmapping over baking.

Thanks for your answer!

In the meantime I improved the scene from above a little bit, here is a render made with C4D:

I downloaded Baker and used it to make a Lightmap for the lantern in the foregorund. (Yeah, I know the shadow looks crappy )

My options:

Out comes this:

(Made it a bit brighter otherwise it was only black for me..)

So, is that right? If yes, how can I apply this to the object in Dark Basic or C4D and above all do I have to make that for each single object?

PS: I didn't find any Baker Tutorials, do you have a link to a useful one?

I don't have any links, never using baker before, which doesn't allow me to answer your questions. If you cannot get that to work in DBP, I'd try merging that with the texture in photoshop.

Good luck finding solutions, if you are unable to find them, here is a really good community that will be a lot of help, although they won't help on the DBP side.

Yes, but then the problem with the tiled textures appears again. The shadow would be tiled to and that doesn't look like a shadow..

Thanx, if nobody here knows an answer (I'll wait a few more days) I'll use that site or a German forum for C4D.
