I've been busy building VWEAPs...

Here's some pics:

Done so far are:

M9
*3 variants: basic, with light, with suppressor

M16K
*3 variants: basic, with reflex optic, with holographic optic

M635
*3 variants: basic, with reflex optic, with holographic optic, with suppressor

M4 CQBR
* One version with holographic optic.

Four 512x12 maps total (One common map for each type and its variations). Lots of fun playing tetris with the elements in attempts to get everything to fit.

It's sort of too bad that FPSC doesn't support LOD. These are weighing in at around 350-700 tris but theres still leeway to do fugly things like three sided barrels and whatnot. Cross that bridge when I get there I suppose.

Looks great! I assume I should be recieving/received an e-mail from you about these for the DBP project?

Make sure you know about the 'FIRESPOT' bone, place a bone on the end of the muzzle and call it 'FIRESPOT', so the muzzleflash comes from the end of the gun.

Impressive alignment work there buddy, all guns in hands and on scale!

Lookin very nice too! This might be an odd crit, but the texture detail on the guns almost looks TOO high against the characters! Perhaps it needs toning down a little... or the character's texture map needs more detail!

Anyway, I don't care if MP6 is coming out soon, I'd hold out for these models, and heck, you should wait up too, and take advantage of the dual weild engine mod!

Peace out

Thanks, Fellas. I'm pretty happy with them.

To most people this probabily just seems like a bunch of M16s... but I'm nutty like that.

Airslide, check your email... I upladed some files for you.

RF, Glad you like them. I think that 5.56mm PDW variants will become more common if and when the M16 family starts to get phased out of the battle rifle role in order to make room for the FN SCAR or whatever hits the scene in the comming years.

bfx arena 2008, these will sold at some point. Possibly as an official TGC pack.

Butters, thanks, man! It wasn't as much as a PITA as I'd feared to get them in the hands. The hands themselves are in a bit of an awkward position though (especially the thumbs!). I'd originally hoped to use Loc's stripper or Bond1's bikini girl to model VWEAPs but didn't get around to remapping the characters. These guys seemed pretty appropriate and have decent deformation, support hands are properly in-line and the respirators and flash hoods make them easy to put a bunch in a scene together without looking too much like clones. FYI, I scaled up the VWEAPs to 120% of the HUD gun size and the SAS guys with S10 masks are 100% scale in FPE. The guys in flash hoods are 90% (I think). Anyways, they look the right size when you're standing shoulder to shoulder or staring down the business end at point blank. Like you pointed out, it does make me want to spruce up the definition on the SAS guys but I don't have time to mess with that right now. Without anisotropic filtering (I have it on 16x) they look as blurry as the characters.

Well done, errant. Some more great work coming out yet again. Did you finish the animation "problem" we spoke about on your forums private IM? The hands were cocking a part that wasnt there etc...
I would also think about waiting for the dual wield. This would be bsaically the first ones to come out, and people would rave for them I think this will do well.
Good luck,
Yours,
Dan.

Yeah, if you've seen the Revision 2 video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44gFsslhpg4) you'll notice that the slapping gesture has been replaced with a more deliberate looking press of the bolt catch. If you check out Airslides WIP thread in the NVidia, there's a couple videos there with a more recent animation revision that is a little brisker and has the thumb sweep the catch instead of sort of poking at it. It also shows a much desired alt-fire for the M203!

I'm definately eager about teh dual wield...

First off I wanna say nice looking weapons Errant. Even your use of stock media like the sas makes your presentation look so pro. You really have a talent.

Ahh... is that it? Thanks, Loc.

I was hoping they had modified things to facilitate true alternating fire. The recognition of _02 bones is nice but doesn't really solve anything other than making it easier for simultaneous firing. I'll modify and retest my G18s with this anyhow.

As discussed in my "case study: dual semi-automatics" thread, I just have a hard time seeing motivation to make dual semi-automatics even with these additions. But hey, people can have twice as much goofy, floating brass hovering around now ><

I just figured you might look here, but errant, I can get your "door with destroyed state" working if you want. Just one thing?

is the destroyed door part of the normal doors anims or is it a separate mesh?

I can work it both ways, but the first is easier.

peace

You should change this animation back to the origional. YOu undeed palm butt the bolt release when reloading. you don't delicately push the button. Other than that Great Work!

Thanks for the new comments.. LOL Kieth, I need to take that advice, myself :-\

Butters, I had to poke around to figure out what you were talking about...

It was a vent door with one mesh. Is that the one you were thinking of? Frames 1-15 it swings open, 16-30 it closes and 31-50 it pops off its hinges and flops to the ground. The max file has the frame, door and punch.

The animations are pretty poor though because I was (am) too much of a segment nub to figure it out.

I'm attaching the .3ds and .tga if you want to mess around with it. Can you load a .3ds into Maya?

RF,check out the "M16 w/M203 Demonstration (1.88 MB)" video in Airslides compo thread and let me know if it's any better or worse than the other versions you've seen. I don't mind changing things to use the palm instead of thumb if that's how it needs to be.

BTW, for anyone who wants the link to that:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=94243&b=32

I've got several videos demonstrating EAI's weapons, keep in mind however their walking animation is a coded sequence and positioning is diffrent than EAI's default because I'm using DBPro.

Hopefully it's nothing too bad but I am no IT. I should be able to let people know how rosy the outlook is in a few days.

Errant, sorry I took ages to reply. I've got a working breakable door, but if it's all the same to you, I'm gonna email it to you, cuz I don't want a thing like that getting out and about before the 16th!

It would be awful if your PC is dead man. I send it my best wishes, and get well soons.

No worries, Butters. I've been away for a while so it's all good. New parts are on the way, so with a bit of luck I'll be back in action after the weekend.

Thanks for the well wishes, fellas. My reincarnated rig will be a bit faster and modernized... It's bittersweet.

Smitho, I figure It'll only be a waste if nobody can put them to good use or at least get a kick outta 'em. Sadly, my PC repairs ate up what I had budgeted for TGE. Oh well, stuff happens.

Is that Torque Game Engine or something?

Oh, Errant, in a bit I'll e-mail you some pics of how the engine I'm using your guns in is going. I restarted the actuall engine, though I'm copying and pasting over some of the old stuff. In someways better and in other ways I sort of regret it. We'll see how it turns out...
