Hi, I export a .X model from MAX, it looks alright when view in MAX, but when I load it in DBpro, it is quite dark. I try to tweak the lights position but it doesn't work.

I was wondering do I need to set any object properties after loading the a .X model?

Thanks!

What Exporter do you use? If Panda Directx, be sure to select Export Vertex Colors and Mesh Normals!

Try setting the ambient light to max, that might help.

I had the same problem. If you use color object, the objects are lighter or darker depending on the lighting (as they should). If you set ambient light high, they are white, and too low, they are pitch black. Use Set ambient light and set it to about 50%. Another way to solve this is to use textures. Textures do not seem to have as much a reaction to lights.

try the FADE OBJECT command it might help.

We could have handled that better.

Yes, but if the ambient light is too high, the fade object command just makes it lighter or darker, but still has no color.

I get that with DarkMatter models in DBPro, they are all dark and tinted red for some reason. To fix it I have to texture them at run-time, that seems to fix it.

Thanks KuRi, it works after I select Export Vertex Colors and Mesh Normals in Panda Exporter.

But weird things is, it only works correctly with point lights. If I use directional lights, the model still looks dark.

Funny eh? Any ideas?

Directional lights or spot lights appear to rely on the number of triangles per face of the object, i.e. Meshes with very few polys are affected badly by positioned lights where as more polys increase the accuracy of the lighting on the mesh. Increasing the number of polygons slightly for models also seems to have the same effect. It's a balancing act.
