The faces are the same way round although when i extrude the gun looks like this

The problem is Milkshape doesn't automatically create the back faces of an object when you extrude it, you need to do that bit yourself.

Personally I would simply have copied the flat version, reversed the vertex order then manually created the faces to join the two together, if that makes sense.

how do i copy the flat model this is the first time ive used milkshape

Select all the vertices then on the Edit menu select Duplicte Selection. Before you do anything else (i.e. while you have the new vertices highlighted), I'd sugest you then go to the Face menu and select Reverse Vertex Order.

Theres more to it.. select the faces on the side that you can see, like they said above, and in the edit menu, click duplicate. In the face menu, reverse the vertex order, then in the face menu, click smooth all. Then move the selected faces to the other side of the gun.
