Okay I've gotten my head around the basics of fpsc, I've managed to create a scale model of my house, I've mapped the textures and have succesfully loaded it into my game using the entity maker from the fpsc website,

But now im stuck!

whenever my character enters the house I created, it stops moving

I think the reason for this is because of the way I have set the collision propeties, (here are some examples to give you an idea of how I came to this conclusion)

1: If I create two entities, one being the floor and the other being the rest of the house and I set the floors collision properties to 'box' and set the rest of the house to 'poly' then everything works fine, no getting stuck
The only problem is that I have to manually align the two segments, which just ends up looking crap.

2: If I create a single entity and set the collision properties to 'poly' I dont have to align anything but can't walk all the way through the house without getting stuck

3: If I create one entity and set the collision to 'box', then I cant even enter the house (I did try using a CSG punch to get through but that didnt work either)

If any of you have any idea's or better yet, Know a sollution, then please let me know.

Thanks

Eric

The house should be a prefab, not an entity.

Anyways, post a picture of it. Press F12 or PrintScreen during gameplay to make a pic.

Automatic: Biological Warfare

Comin' soon, maybe in Jan./Feb. 2007!

I've had similar problems when making a building (as an entity) that is more than a box (as far as the interior). Some people have had success in using a program such as 3D World Studio to build their levels though. The collision is just not to good when it comes to complex structures (from my experience).

Keep collision to polygons, its better in some ways, but if it gets stuck in that mode on the floor, then your model is weird.

Thanks to all who posted but i think American Infantry is onto something.

No offence Keith but id rather not have to figure out another piece of software just yet.

I've decided to break my model into individual meshes and put them through the sedgekit. apparently there is a way to create prefabs from individual segments, although it may take me a while to figure out how, as it seems that everytime someone posts a thread about making prefabs, they are told to "read the manual" (which as far as i can tell doesnt say anything about creating prefabs but rather 'how to load existing prefabs into a level')

Anyway thanks again.

Actually, section 5.1.1 of the manual, entitled "How to Make Your Own Prefabs", covers the topic.

Thanks FPSDude, I'll have a read of that section

As for my model, the segment editor has solved the problem, even though it took me almost 3hrs to break it down into the relevent meshes.

However after solving my original problem, I find im facing a whole new one The problem is my character cant ascend the staircase. It probably has something to do with the height of the poly, but as I said, the model is to scale. so if anyone knows how i can get my character to climb the staircase i have made (see pic)

NOTE: Each box is 10 pixels high
