I spent about an hour today working on a base human model I could use for all of my future human models, theyre really good to have around for quick main character mock ups . Anyways, after finishing I started giving the guy armour, and I noticed it was kind of looking like the guy from Gears of War, so half way through modelling him I tried to make him look more like Marcus, gave him a bandana and all that...

Anyways, I was modelling from memory and I guarantee the proportions/armour isnt right, but the shapes there . Hes about 1000 polygons (less) but I wasnt going for low poly anyways.

Oh yeah, the mesh is pretty sloppy, but the human base mesh is a fair amount better. Bare in mind I threw on the armour and junk in all of 5 minutes .

Pretty cool Ruccus. Are you still using wings3D to do your models? You seem to be cranking out quite a few these days, that's awesome.

Yep Mike , I havent been able to find another modeller that lets me work as fast as Wing does, ive pretty much memorized all of the Macro's for it so Im just constantly clicking/pressing keyboard buttons until the models done. Though I might have another try with Blender soon.

Thanks for the comments .

Yeah, I'm exactly the same way Ruccus. Wings3d is what I started with, so it's just natural to me, even after 3 years of working with other modelers. Even now I'm just starting to learn how to work the uv mapper(as opposed to using LithunWrap, which is still good). But yeah, I've got the latest copy of blender and plan on using that with Wings3d for some of its rendering and animation abilities.

Anyway, this model will look great once it's textured I'm sure. Looks like it'll animate nicely too once it's rigged. *hint hint*

Thanks rolfy.

Yea I know what you mean Mike, I personally really dont like Wings 3D's UV Mapper, it has a lot of flaws that wouldnt take too much time to correct to me. I stick with Lithunwrap for the time being, but I have tried 3DS Maxe's Ultimate Unwrap 3D, and WOW its amazing, so easy to use.

Im looking into buying Softimage XSI to complete my graphics library though. Once I have that Ill have Wings 3D for modelling, SI-XSI for animation, UV Mapping and rendering, Deep Exploration for file conversion (it converts everything!) and Adobe Photoshop (old version ) for texturing/normal maps.

Ive actually also just redownloaded the latest Blender, Im starting to remember why I put off learning about it, theres so many buttons and gadgets , good thing theres a heavy tutorial resource.

Anyways goodluck with your modelling Mike, once I figure out Blender Im gona be working on rigging this guy up (never rigged before... ever...)

I spent about a half an hour tweaking the mesh, added onto the back armour aswell. The hands got revamped (no more seperate fingers now, didnt like the way they looked), and I moved some verts around to make it easier come UV Mapping time. Also added some edge loops in key areas as from what Ive read they help with rigging your character.

Heres pretty much the finished mesh, I might add a bit more armour to the hands, and try to remove the symmetry, but not too much;

<edit>

Oh yeah I worked on the face as well. In the beginning I was using my head model from when I was modelling the main robot from iRobot the movie, I kept that mesh but I worked mainly on the mouth to make a more angry, buff look. He's got a bigger lower lip now too.
