We have to assume many things if you dont supply information.
You have posted in the DBC area so im assuming you have darkbasic classsic.

Have you ever programmed before? If so what languages have you dabbled in?
Are you coming from an artistic background, either 2d or 3d.

If your just starting out in programming, you have a very long road to take before embarking on a project like an FPS or an RPG. The best first steps is to see if you like programming.

Try these tutorials if your just starting out.
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=96010&b=7

Make a folder on your computer and call it MyDarkBasic_Snippets.
Start to make small programs to build up your knowledge of the language and the commands.
The more commands you know the easier it is to solve problems.

Would you call yourself a good problem solver? Programming is basically problem solving to achieve a desired result.

Would you say your good with mathematics? Programming can be difficult if you dont have an average grasp of maths and concepts.

What are your favorite games?
What kind of game really interests you in regards to recreating it, or making something similar?

If your young, Please dont post your age, sample some of the code snippets and see if any of the commands make sense now, if some make sense and some dont, your partly there.

more information would be required on your behalf to help evaluate your starting point.
