hi all, i modelled the ak47 cause its in so many games and i wanted to compare mine to a few others, the only thing i havent done is finish off the front and texture and animate.

this gun is aproaching 1,500 polys, i havent smooth grouped or optimised yet cause i just wanted to know if this is a bit much, primarily i have darkbasic just to show off my models in a realtime game engine cause im on a course at college that is about creating media for games.

what id like to know is how many polys can the engine handle or is it just dependent on the speed of my computer.

cheers for all replys in advance

Hey nice gun there. 1500 should be cake for DBP if its an FPS or 3PS. Hope it looks just as good textured (or better!).

Man that looks super high poly, but only 1500 man great job. I cant explain this either. Its like a new wave of super modelers, they are all like, "this is my first model do you think its any good?" Then you look at the picture, and it looks like something Jon fletcher made. Dear god I am just amazed reading these forums!

EDIT: Oh i feel better now. Im a kid and youre in college. Ok. this makes more sense. But dont take this an an insult, that is still an amazing model. So even though you are older if this is your first model that is just amazing!

these super modelers are prevalent on many other forums like polycount and so forth.

Nice work there though, the render is really what makes it seem so hi poly.

also he said its his first GUN model, I know they don't start you off making complex guns.

@oddmind
Thing is i started a degree in interactive media and its a degree at an english college which (and im not saying all colleges) but they are desperate to get as many people as possible on there courses, so they accepted me because although i have the right level of education in IT, just not in media so ive never modelled b4.

I did a few little tutorials that are shipped with max like the animated company logo and the power charger, but i new that i would need experience in max or maya (which they have at my college) which the other guys on my course have, to get along an keep up so......

im a visual learner and i watched an AWFULL LOT of video tutorial which brough me up to speed.

so this isnt just my first gun model, this is my first model, here is a pic in first person mode hope you like it.

That gun really looks COOL.
You should texture it and as for that first person picture, the gun is too high(covering too much of the screen), lower it down.
