Hello,
I am inquiring if: I can create models and sets within 3d studio max and import them somehow into FPS. Also I have an ocean created in Maya, is there a way to import that into FPS as well?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!!

PS let me know what other sofware I need to fork out and invest in.

DaRaVEn3D,

Please be patient. I am sure you will receive a response with some useful information. I, however, do not have any useful information in this case..

You can convert .3ds files into .x files and convert them to FPSC. I think PandaXporter or something like that does it...

maya direct x exporter works fine too, but I don't think an animated ocean will be very friendly to your polycount as you'll have to convert all the liquid effecs to polygons....

but hey you have 3d studio AND Maya, you must have so much money, why don't you just pay me to make your game!

POD. ( Prince of Darkness )
I have been a beta tester for 3dstudio since it was kinetix. autodesk, discreet, now back to autodesk. Also maya. Since it was with Alias|Wavefront. Now Autodesk bought them. I am currently using the beta of Max 9.0 and Maya 8.0.
Whats this comment about not being an adult anyway?
What sparked that?

Does 3DStudio open .mdl files? 3DStudio can save them into .3ds files? Thank you

3ds Max doesn't directly open .mdl files. There are third-party importers that may or may not open them depending on the mdl version. For the most part, you need to use MilkShape to import the mdl, then export as 3ds, then import to 3ds Max.

Any bone/animation info will be lost, though.

Also, you can import HL2 smd files, but again with a third-party importer like CannonFodder's importer.

There's plugin MaxScript for exporting wmp/mdl scenes for A6 Studio also.
