is there any way to keep the bitmap on the screen whilst you have otherthings going on (ie sprites) or do you have to keep loading it every frame?

u could make it a sprite itself.

keep updating it each loop

make it a 3d plain

so depending on your requirements.

Yes, you have to load it every frame - but there are many ways to do this.

Indi's given you a few ways, but you could also redraw it using:
PASTE IMAGE if the background is stored in a image
COPY BITMAP if the background is stored in a bitmap

Also, if you're redrawing the display every time anyway, then there's no need for your sprites to save their background, so use the SET SPRITE command to switch this off. I have no idea why this is on by default, because it seems that there's actually no use for it.

thanks for the help, but i am not wanting to change it into an image/sprite because that seriosly decreases the quality, i am now just loading it every frame, and hoping patch 4 is gonna speed it up some

when you say it decreases the quality are you using the ,1 flag on the end of the get image command?

Specs:- 1GHZ athlon, Radeon8500, 192mb ram, winxp

load as image not bitmap and add the '1' flag like haggisman says -load image"img.bmp",1,1.
Now when you make it a sprite it should look just fine.
