I imagine you guys have been going day and night for a while. Like I told butters, take your time and enjoy yourself by all means, but just don't forget where home is. (even if it's your 2nd or 3rd home)

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

It won't last, I mean I can understand wanting a break, but the need for a break is easily squished by the need to create. Seriously, you might go a couple of nights, then bam!, you'll watch a movie and end up with a dozen ideas that you need to try out.

Best not to stray to far from the PC .

I've taken breaks that took longer then a couple of nights.... but you need to stray far from your pc for it

Best is imo, switch the pc off for a week at a least, so something completely differently, after all there's more to life then making games.

But to really know if you really want something, you have to stop doing it completely for at least 26 days in a row. If you still desire doing it after these days, it's in your blood If not, don't even bother picking it up again. I've read that in a scientific magazine once, they conducted a huge research on habits and breaking habits and how to determine if you really like what you're involved in.

I took a break from game design a few years back.... it lasted more then six months and I don't regret it. I learned so many cool other things (that turn out to be very useful in game design also). I've been really into creating games for the last year now, that I'm ready to take a huge break again and learn something new.

But I've already stated that before, just finishing up some game related projects and then I'll take a long break as well, at least from game design. I'll still be around and use FPSC for my 3D teaching enviroments, I had my complete none FPSC break during Christmas and that was over a week already.

So if you take a break, do it good and not a few nights only!

I've not wanted to even look at this thread, as well can be imagined. As I write now, every post shows the eerie baby blue of a first glanced upon thread. I think more then anyone I'm going to miss S4's break. I think I seen this coming during the holidays, and some recent events more then likely pushed this in a direction I didn't want to see it go.

Though our personalities are worlds apart, I think we made a pretty good team. Some will say, "Ahh I wanna make a game by myself" but I found working with someone else allowed for you to settle back into what may be your strengths, and forge forward with ideas. Having a partner to say "Nah man...I don't like that" or "We need to do it this way" helps so much. Besides being able to test your creations on multiple computers in an attempt to make it as user friendly as possible, just the fact you have a person to share little things with that you perhaps don't want everyone to see helps tremendously.

Errant said in a post on his forums: "You and s4 worked well because you found a common enemy in the FPSC engine"

I'd like to think it was more then that. From talking about his boys arm getting broke to my daughters first semester in collage, we talked about so much more then just games.

I hope you get your personal things worked out bro...
You'll be missed in the mean time..

Good Luck
Loc

Well looking at the forums the last week or so, it seems like alsmost everyone is taking a break at the moment. Things seem to be slow going around here.

Yeah, I think this has been a long time in comming. I think it has to do alot with conflicting personalities and the fact that hardly anyone around here is trying to learn a thing about this engine. alot of us have been around for over a year but it's not the same place anymore. the older guys are packing up and scooting. I can count on both hands how many v1 users are left on these forums and count on all of my fingers and toes and then some of all the older people that have left. I think that people setting expectations to high and then not wanting to listen to us vets is killing or has killed the mood. Even us older guys are taking snips at each other. that's not cool as we should be leading the way for these youngsters. It'll calm down again soon since the christmas holiday is over and it's not a peak time of year for birthdays....until next year..oh god christmas time brings flashback questions from new users......better start stocking up on the MT.Dew now 'cause we
re going to need it.

Regards,
RF

Everybody needs a break from time to time. The Nvidia competition,as well as the holidays, have worn a lot of us thin.
While I have been posting on the forums I haven't been doing much with FPSC lately. Some days I get a little done and some days I don't.
Some people also have real life problems that they have to deal with which is more important than this.
It's like a drug,though...they usually come back sooner or later.
Once those that have stepped away have caught a breath and done what they need to do I hope they return.
