Hi guys,
I'm working on a little level for the January level design competition and i need someone to be the second character in the level. I've recorded the lines of the main character but his boss still needs a voice.

The voice must be:
Male
British (or a very, very good British impersonation)
Accent: South England/London
Have a sort of authority to it

If anyone can help, please post or send a sound file to me of you saying the line, "Okay, Alpha squad's in position so you'd best link up with Beta squad ASAP". I'll make my selections from that.

I'm a little sceptical of posted "proof" because it is after all a secret level until the submission date. What do you think?
Thanks,
AE

I know some super realistice text-to-speech applications. I've used them before in some of my games. No one has noticed yet. The more realistic voices are the USA voices, the ones for other countries aren't that good. Heres the link.

NOTE: You may need to do some pitch alterations.

Best of luck

He said, "You drink when you're lonely." No I drink when I want!
He said, "You'll never be sober." Sure. Why would I want that?

I'd help ya. but my voice comes out like a little kid. Not deep at all for being 16. I can do a good accent though.

@ The C++ Nerd:
Thanks for that, it was certainly interesting to see what synthesised voices can get away with, but you just don't the emotion in the speech (my line is meant to sound like an order).

@xplosys:
Again, thanks. I think i've heard that one used before in a game...but i'm not sure which.

@Urlforce Studios:

I am enraged

@Jenkins:
Hey, i'm younger (slightly) and i still managed it. Just talk lots until you voice is suitably low and croaky to pass for a 30 year old.

Btw peoples, the regional accent should be the southern of British/London

Was my 'ello not sexy enough?

I do believe the second team is more likely to be called bravo team... I dont know whether there's a reason its called beta, but the word "Bravo" is a lot more clear if you were to hear it over a radio.
Also, Credz sound file is quite unrealistic... I know what you've tried to do - You tried to sound like you are shouting, but couldnt use full volume when recording it... Sounds kind of dodgy, since if you are part of an elite counter terrorist, you must keep your composure...
Just a few thoughts

No, the "'ello gov'nor" was too stereotyped for my liking. Strangely enough, we don't speak like that and haven't done for 100 years. It's just how i'd imagine an American corn-farmer thinking of a "Brit". I get annoyed be people whose only cultural experience of British is from Oliver Twist and The Simpsons.

@Credz
Thanks, i'll bare you in mind but could you try a lower voice?

@Smitho
Our (the game's) specail forces team is conprized of squads named after letters of the Greek alphabet. Logically, it goes:
alpha
beta
gamma
delta etc

AE I know of the stereotype, I was just kidding about the whole thing, but if you find you do need an American voice, let me know.

He said, "You drink when you're lonely." No I drink when I want!
He said, "You'll never be sober." Sure. Why would I want that?

If i decide to carry on with the rest of the game (i.e. make more than one level), i wil have need of some American voices.

Thanks Credz: So far, you are in the leader with your "alpha beta 5" accent. I'll keep it open to others for the weekend and if no one else is better than you, i'll send you the other lines.

I know a few voice actors here in Boston, they worked with some big game companies before. I'll ask if they can help you for free. They're American, but they can probably do a British accent.

Avenging Eagle, not to contridict you bro, but I think 'Corrination Street' is pretty recently made, and to other countries, it still sounds like the same accent to us. I'm sure you guys doing a Boston, or a southern, or Texan accent would probably insult those areas, but none the less is probably accurate.(j/k round man)

Good luck on getting the voices right though. I know that can be a pain and why I opted to go the comic road.

Locrian, Coronation Street is a Northern accent, totally different to the clichéd Victorian London Cockney, made famous by actors like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and other such movies. To tell a Londoner that they sound the same as a Northerner, is considered an insult.

The worst British accents I have ever heard were on Buffy and some of Daphne's friends on Frasier.

@ Muggins majik:
you're a little late but sure, why do you post a clip of you saying the line in your main stream accent.

They went to England in one episode.

Hi Avenging Eagle, I was considering sending you a sound clip, but my microphone isn't very good. It always comes out raspy, which is alright for C.B. radios, but not much else.
