Hey, is it possible to make your standard editable text box in DB Pro? what I want is one I could use during an online game.. a chat box you say? why yes, a chatbox that you can edit, like... using the arrow keys to move backwards down the string of characters and because it's an online game it can't be some input thing that pauses the program, that aint right... thanks... oh and I still don't know how to animate limbs

Just a thought but if you can create a C/C++ DLL file for calling from your DB app and create the dialog in a second thread. Any text changes in your editable dialog can be returned back to DB by having a function that polls the DLL every few miliseconds or something. I'm sure that other people may have better ideas though.

Using a separate thread ensures that the initial call to the DLL for creating youe Edit box will return back to DB. From within your game loop, you poll the DLL by calling a function which returns the current text entry in the Edit box. You get the idea though

??? I'm confused. Why are you suggesting a DLL, when this can be done in DBPro without any real difficulty?

The code that I posted here somewhere in the past few weeks is halfway to doing what he wants already.

I'll post it here again tomorrow, updated to do what he needs it to do.

I was basing it on the assumption that he wanted to use standard Windows Components, and I did say that other people would have better ideas. Depends on what he wanted

Ya you could just do it in DBPro, no need to use complicated "real" programming for Dlls...dont flame me

I know it can be done in DBPro but if you look at his question, he specifically asked for a standard editable text box, which DB does not support when it comes to windows components, hence the offering of doing it in a DLL. And it was just an idea, not a £125,000 project estimate LOL.

Ok, here's the code I promised - It's a bit complex, because it's designed for something I'm putting together. I've also used a type to hide away the globals.

I've a small program around it to show you how to use it.

Hit the ` key to switch into talk mode, and enter 'quit' to quit.
It handles left/right/home/end/backspace/delete.

Run it, and see.
