I know that FPSC isnt the best for making outside areas in your games, especially as enemies go right through hill entities, however my question is, when any of you guys make outside areas, what do you do around the edges of the map. For example do you just place a wall around the whole area? or just leave it so you can see over the edge of the map. Im sorta stuck for ideas

extend the map maybe 3-4 units, and build an invisible baracade around that... it will look 'a bit' like the map continues... but you can't get to it. Aditionally, employing mountains, rifts, or anything else, makes up for the inability to travers though that region.

I had made a game using the complete 40*40 grid.

ignore the gameplay and just about everything else (I didn't have time to finish anything ), but yea, check how I have prevented the player from going outside the boundaries.

You can make your own by texturing a wall with transparency, simple.

^Filya that desert level was superb, i was really stunned about how you put it together, the custom material was fantastic did you make it all yourself?

And though i understand what you meant by outside environment, im trying to take a more open environment approach, like a jungle, what i am thinking of doing is surround the area with cliffs and water that you cant cross, and just give the feel of a massive open area by connecting levels via tunnels and ladders that when used will have a "win zone" in that takes you to the next section

thank you Cherd. yes, every single thing there was custom made.
The important thing about that level was, I got very good rates even after covering the complete grid and keeping it all open

yeah i noticed that, How did you manage that?

Ive used the whole grid for a lot of levels and used less entities than you have, without lighting and fog, and my rates seem to go down to about 10 to 18! where as when i played yours which was more heavily populated with entities and used the entire grid, it ran smoothly :S
