if anyone wants to make a video of their gameplay use this link to FRAPS. Older users will know about this but for the newer ones to FPSC use this download to record your game play.

Note this requires direct x 9.0 or higher

Fraps isn't the best one, because it lags your video and doesn't have compression . Older users will know about this but for the newer ones to FPSC don't

Then is is still like 750 MB for a , lets say...., 3 minutes movie? So Fraps is crap. I use Fraps but then I throw the 800MB big movie (3 minutes) into a compressor: Blaze Media Pro.
It turns the 800MB big movie into a 15 MB small movie

You can use Windows Movie Maker to turn your fraps movie into a .wmv file. They are a lot smaller.

I agree. WMM is a very useful tool (unlike what some say). You just need to tweak around. I have made some very interesting animated stick figure movies with music, sfx, gun sounds, titles, credits, etc. Windows Movie Maker is not to be underestimated!!

I see you are not yet familiar with more professional tools. The worst thing is that it only exports as .wmv!!!

It exports as an .avi file (uncompressed) as well...possibly others.
.wmv files are small compared to uncompressed .avi files and they are what I use...along with WMM.
There may be more professional tools out there but you can't beat WMM's price.

Fast Cap does have a watermark in the demo version.
Only the full version is watermark free.

Yes, Fast Cap does have a watermark, but Fraps = Sooo short recording time. I'm not spending pounds on Fraps, when they're perfectly good screen recorders like Fast Cap, I'd go for Fast Cap, Mr Makealotofsmoke

yeah but fraps is by far the most simple - press f9 to start and press f9 to end and the video is automatically in avi.

I tried to use the demo of Fast CAP Pro and it just took a video of a black screen whe I used it to record my FPSC game.

Can anyone tell me why?

I have DirectX 9x.

Does it need a certain codec?

I use Fraps (though not full version yet - I ran broke on my new 360 ) and it doesn't lag my stuff, but then again I have a very powerful video board.

Fraps does not suck. All you need to do is to compress it with divx using virtual dub, which you can download for fre.

Game Cam
Screen Recorder Gold

Two of the best screen recorders. I use them with power director, a more competant editing studio, because despite WMM compression features, WMM has so many poor features (and lack of good ones) that it isn't worth the effort.

here's an excerpt from one of my tutorials:
Quote: "NEVER EVER USE WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER, it is the worst video editor ever made. If Adobe Premier were a marine, windows movie maker would still be bashing stuff and shouting "Ug!". It isn't useful for anything except a cheap gimick for micrsoft."

I tried Game cam for the first time and it rocks. Much better than fraps. Fraps does bog my game down and the as we all know makes a choppy video. darimc, its nice that you have a good PC. However if you are designing games for the most powerfull PCs in the world then very few people will be able to play them. I design on a medium range PC to insure that most people will be able to play what I make. In the world of indie game design it has become apparent to me that who has the most powerful PC should only be important to the players of the games and not the makers. The pc that the game is made or at least tested on should be at the same tech level as the people that will be wanting to play it.

Thanks for the tip on Gamecam Avenging Eagle.

Only drawback is the size of the .avi - I made the mistake of using a great quality .avi in Windows Movie Maker... big mistake, the resulting .wmv was smaller in size as it was compressed but also lost a 'lot' of quality. Never again.

Next time I'll look for something better to do the conversion job even if I have to pay for it.

If you DL FRAPS make you you get Virtual Dub which iis a free comprdession program for FRAPS. You can also use SnagIt which has many other options beyond what Fraps offers, though a bit more expensive.

I use fastCapPro which we all know is all better.

Fraps justs generates massive video files and in the demo you can only make up to, i think 3 mins??

@ Avenging Eagle: Does Game Cam and Screen Recorder Gold actually work with recording FPSC games? I aks because I have Fast Cap Pro and it does nto record FPSC games as I have tried it multiple times in the past. So I was just wondering if you have ever recorded your FPSC games with these programs? If so, cna you record it withotu makign a game and only in test level or do you have to make a game and then record it? Thanks.

Game Cam makes me sick.
FRAPS is stupid and lags your computer.
Can't you hook your vid camera up to your comp and record that way? No lag, no time limit (except on HD, tape, DVD etc) and no water mark.

big..hahaha..you said big!
