Ok. I am developing some game making software that uses some darkmatter 1 textures as its default textures. Will i be able to sell the software?
I did not know how to contact tgc directly about this but im hoping that I will get an answer on here.

DarkMatter models are royalty free as far as I know. That means, you can sell them as part of your game. Once you've bought the package or disc (bought a licence to use them basically).

The only thing your not allowed to do is repackage everything from darkMatter and resell it as a model pack or part of a model browser or well... you get the idea.

On the DarkMATTER page it quite clearly says "Models are royalty free for use in your own games".
So yes, you can sell it. In fact, as long as it's used in your game, you can distribute your game pretty much however you like!
(Royalty-free means you can use it in your game, without having to pay a Royalty to The Game Creators)

@mitch793,
Contact [email protected] and ask him, but be prepared for a 'no' answer - game making software is not the same as a game.

The Game Creators say on their website (can't remember where now but it's there) that they have no problem with you making a game with their products but NOT game making software.

That can't be true. That would mean you can't make a level editor or anything with DarkBASIC. Maybe that only applies to certain products such as DarkMatter.

@ShaunRW,

Not necessarily. A level editor or something of that nature wouldn't exactly be classified as game creation software; simply, say...a map/level creator instead of a game creator?

@mitch793,

Yes -- you can sell software which uses Darkmatter,
although, as mentioned, not game making software...games are okay, but just make sure that you have some type of encryption and protection on the Darkmatter textures and models you use.

If you're honest, yeah. But it's cheap enough to buy. And if you're really going to sell your program, surely you can spare the cash for this software.

You use it for free to make your program, then when you sell it, buy a licence.
