Hey Guys,

I was curious if anyone else has experiences this issue, or one similar to it.

To put it simply, my new computer wont recognize my Dark Basic pro disc. Ive had it since 2005, but ive only installed it maybe 2 or 3 times every time i reinstalled XP (the disc looks nearly mint condition).

I recently purchased a new HP computer:
Win 7
6.0 gb RAM
AMD athlon II X4
Nvidia 9500GT
640gb HDD
500gb HDD

I put the disc in the drive and it will not recognize it. Ive rebooted, still nothing. I even installed FPSC, and FPSC X10 as well as office and my other programs on the same drive fine.

I then installed a SECOND brand new HP drive thinking it COULD HAVE BEEN the drive, but i get the same result in the second drive.

Its as if there is no disc in the drive, and it is really frustrating me. Does anyone have any solutions for me to try? Im out of ideas

You can just copy your DBPro folder (possibly removing any irrelevant projects) from your old computer, or perhaps just copy the contents of the installation disc onto some removable media device.
If using the first approach, you might want to search the registry for any entries relating to DBPro / TGC and copy these over as well. I don't know whether there are any required registry keys though.

I just had the same issue. I've tried copying DBP cd to the harddrive, but it fails. Trying to install directly from disk also fails However, I think in my case the CD drive has died on me, because now most CD's wont read. It still burns just fine though. Its a Samsung, you'd figure it would be "high quality", very odd.

I'll guess I'll see when the new CD-Rom drive arrives tomorrow.

Edit:
Now that I think about it, we both have Windows 7...

i would try lowering the drive's READ speed to help with small (possibly un-noticable) scratches, etc. i couldn't find how to do this through windows (vista 64) but my pre-installed DVD/CD utility app (power2go) can do it (and, hopefully, yours, too).

it's worth a shot. i know lowering the write speed helps ensure a good burn so thinking the same theory in reverse would help, too.
good luck!
