Uhh I guess, make sure that you don't have the process running. Check your task bar and ctrl+alt+delete->processes, to make sure no "Application.exe" is running.

Other than that iunno

It's the default editor, in Tools > Options you can change the theme of the editor. That one is "Visual Studio 2010", note that that theme is only available in the newest version of the editor.

The right version of DirectX? You need DirectX 9.0c even if your running vista or 7 and have DirectX 10 or 11.

You still need to install 9.0c.

Even that might not be enough as DBPro needs at least a specific update of that version. Check this thread:

Exactly the same thing started happening to me a couple of days ago. All DBP created exe's, past and present, get the same application error upon running them. I even hunted down some old stuff I was playing with in 2009, and these fail as well (just starting the exe, no recompile). Everything else on my PC stills runs normally.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and the only major change that has occurred recently, is a batch of three Windows Updates. I've tried uninstalling them (although one is permanent), but to no avail. Also tried the usual reinstalls (gfx drivers, dx9, msvcrt).

Anyone had a similar problem, or something else I could try?

Hay, Guys.

I have been using Darkbasic Professional and FPS Creator for month’s now without any problems. I am not sure if this will work for you. These programs appear to be externalizing the Darkbasic DLL’s to a temp folder. Norton security take care of this for me now.

Until, I realized this I started having the same problem. I’m not sure why but these files seem to get corrupted on occasion. My Windows XP system is down. But on Windows 7 the folders are located in C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp. Replace Brian with your user folder. Delete all folders named dbpdata.

I really hope this help’s everyone.

@WickedXGames
Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately my compiled programs aren't even reaching the decompression stage, so nothing is being created in my temp directories (and I'd already deleted any previous leftovers).

I'm now starting to get slightly concerned. There must be something I can do to diagnose why all DBP programs that I've ever compiled, are now failing to run. Something OS related has changed, something that DBP exe's need, but what?

Any suggestions what I could try next?

Hi Commico Inc,

I had exactly the same problem trying to run any DBPro programs few days ago.

Before, it was OK. The only one modification I made in my PC was the installation of AVAST INTERNET SECURITY.

Once I uninstalled it and replaced it by the free version of AVAST ANTIVIRUS, everything work fine now !

Take a look if you don't have any software like that running on your system...

Hi,
Like JonnyP, i have the same problems with TGC products, both DarkBasic Professional and FPS Creator. They appears a few days ago, i can't remenber exactly when.
I don't identify any reason, because no change on my PC, except windows Seven and Avast (Free edition) automatic updates.
I use Windows Seven Pro x64 on Intel quadcore processor iCore5, 8Go RAM, NVIDIA GTX460, ASUS Maximus III Gene Motherboard.

All DBP created exe's, past and present, get the same application error when crashing with "0xc0000005" error code.
FPS Creator is down at initialization because FPSC-MapEditor.exe crashed with "0xc0000005" error code
In December no problem with these apps... Also, everything else on my PC still runs normally.

I made fresh new installations with electronic files downloaded from TGC: DBPro online image with last update to 7.6, and FPSC online image updated to last stable 1.17.011

Try installation of FPSC 1.17 in a Virtual Machine on the same PC (VM Windows XP SP3 Pro 32 bits with 1Go RAM + 1 core under last VMware Player)
No difficulty, no error on init, but performance is not there (poor 3D acceleration under a VM)

I have seen Windows event viewer, logs,.. no idea why these TGC applications are down now on Seven 64 bits

More information on recent problem identified with Windows SEVEN x64,
I downgrade Dark Basic Pro version, and compile few samples in Projects folder.

Results:
Execution is OK with DBPro Upgrades 7.2, 7.3, 7.4
but crash with 0xc0000005" error code on DBPro Upgrades 7.5, 7.6, and last 7.7RC

Wow this is a heavy problem!

Am having the same issue on my developing machine. Few days ago it was working fine, and now my projects do not work. Today I upgraded to 7.6 with same results.

Since even the compiled executables fail, it must be not something on the editor, but rather I suppose a directX upgrade related problem.
In fact the editor works and compiles fine.

I use win7 ultimate, x32.

HOWEVER... in my secondary test machine, the compiled programs work just fine. It has xp sp3, and the last directx update I did was the june 2010 redist from MS. I tried it on my w7 computer without success.

So, my conclusion is that some very recent directX file is incompatible.

TGC, please help us by providing some debug tool in order to find the problem in more detail.

Problem solved! (well, for me at least)

Thanks to Mariokiki for the nudge in the right direction regarding Avast anti-virus.

During my initial problems I disabled Avast Free Edition, which of course made no difference, and anyway, it wasn't flagging any false positives so I discounted it as being the cause. I was wrong. After seeing Mariokiki's post, I uninstalled Avast Free completely, rebooted, and suddenly all DBP exe's started working again.

However, I needed to find out if the Avast install had gone wrong over time (I've had it installed for almost a year), or whether the current version simply has some issues. So I cleared every sign of it from my system (registry, directories) and did a fresh install using a new download, then rebooted. All DBP exe's failed again.

I am now using Avira AntiVir Personal without any problems, and can continue writing the game I will never get even close to finishing.

@Mariokiki
Thank you.

@Billy33
You mention Avast Free, so I've advise removing it if you haven't tried already. It's worth a try...

@Commico Inc & @JDforce
If by some strange coincidence you're both using Avast Free, then you know what to try next, if not, then good luck.

Problem solved for me too. Last update for Avast Free Edition was the problem

@Mariokiki and JonnyP
Thank you for your help

Tried to disabled all Avast services with no good result.
I uninstalled Avast Free Edition, run a CCleaner registry cleanup, and can use DBpro 7.6 et FPSC 1.17 without crash.

I choose Avira AntiVir Personal v10, and it seems quite good,... much better for TGC products on Seven x64 for now

Yesss !!!

It's cool for you guys !!

I'm happy you solved your problem.

Personnaly, I used Ccleaner after I uninstalled AVAST INTERNET SECURITY and removed all keys in the Registry before reinstalling AVAST Free version.

Note also this problem doesn't occurs using Windows XP or VISTA even if AVAST INTERNET SECURITY is installed (I tryed it on two different computers)

It should be a problem only with Win7 64bits ?

I already reported the issue to Avast, by using a support ticket. They responded and are working on the issue, trying to reproduce the problem.
Avast is a very good tool, so as soon as they find something I will reinstall it.

Good news, Avast support team mailed me a test build with the issue corrected. It works as charm. Tested with DBpro executables and ide.

I prefer Avast because is the less heavy on my computer.

The alternatives are not as configurable nor complete as Avast, even on free version. AVG did not behave well and disabled taskbar icons, namely power and network. Avira is low featured, and also disabled some taskbar icons (sound, realtek center, pnp devices and network).
I already reported results to Avast team and am sure they will very soon will release a corrected version.

Guys, sorry for late answer, am on a business trip. I received 5.0.677 and it worked fine. However that is a version from december 2010 I think. It shows an "update program" message as it detects a newer version on avast server. When updating it fails again, I uninstalled the newer version and reinstalled 5.0.677 which works great with DBpro.

The files are too large for uploading, but I don't think that posting the links is a problem with them, so here they are, just choose your version, and remember to fully uninstall and restart the computer before installing this version, which works great for me:

- avast Free antivirus: http://public.avast.com/supp/5.0_Build_677/setup_av_free.exe

- avast Pro antivirus : http://public.avast.com/supp/5.0_Build_677/setup_av_pro.exe

- avast internet Security: http://public.avast.com/supp/5.0_Build_677/setup_ais.exe

Remember to IGNORE the update program banner until fixes are confirmed.

That's great JDforce. That what I came up with as well. But my original download is a year old, so thanks for the links.

The one they ask me to try was 5.1_Build_864, witch didn't work. So a December ver is better than nothing.

Now that I've removed Avast! it totally feels like I'm free balling.

Guess I'll wait a couple of weeks until the problem is solved. The last thing I want to do is change AV.

If this is still a problem for some people, the latest update of Avast (v6.0.1091) seemed to solve the problem.

Well, so far it dose.
