I was using 3D Canvas for very long time to model and animate everything in my projects created in DBPro and it worked very well.

Afte few years of learning C/C++ I started using DarkGDK which is pretty cool and installed 3D Canvas again, but the test didn't go well...

I tried 3D Canvas 7.1.1.2 and 6.6.5 but the results are the same...
Exporting object works fine, exporting it with bones or with animation causes mostly error during exporting in 3D Canvas, when it exports corretly ( or it just looks like that ) the object cant be loaded in DarkGDK nor in DirectX model viewer.

My question is mostly about the version you are using or your opinion what could be missing, or just any advice would be helpfull.

I just started working on a new game and I really don't want to give up on 3D Canvas and start to work on different software.

Just to be clear: I have tried DarkGDK old one and new 7.4, I own a 3D Canvas Pro and export to DirectX (.x) format.

Cheers

Hey man, i get the exact same problem, i posted a bug report on the 3d canvas site but i dont think i got a response, anyways version 8 is being released soon so hopefully this knocked those bugs out, I'm having problems with it at the minute when i click on the animate button my model basicaly deforms, its a real pain especially when all the other times i used 3d canvas pro it worked fine. I think a way to get around the Error when exporting .x with bones is to try and not Group the bones together. Just have them loose, might take alittle more work to get all the animations done correctly but thats all i can think of now. I usually get to export .x with my animations when i use only a few bones. For instance if i was creating a dog model i would give it a bone *No pun intended* on its head area,4 legs and its tail i wouldnt give it a spine because it isnt needed that much and i get working exports. Goodluck with your modeling

Hey, thanks for response. I have posted also on 3D Canvas and yeah - no response either. As for the 3D C v8 you won't be able to use a pro version until you buy version upgrade or bought 3D canvas pro after december 2007 ( or something like that, I tried the beta version and thats what came out when I tried to enter my licence code).

The solution I found to this problem is to animate my models in CharacterFX which is free to use and VanB posted a great tutorial how to use it in Decenmber 2008 Newsletter issue in platformer tutorial part 8. It much better because you can asign vertices to limbs it's very precise.

Hope you like it.

It's working better than in 3D Canvas and using timeline also. Besides of attaching vertices the animation itself it's IMO more precise and faster to implement. Also if you want to check just one set of animation for example frames from 20-40 you can do it without playing all from the begining to the end. And finally the exporting works correctly and doesn't crash Hope you like it.

hmm, i just managed to export as .x with about 12-15 bones, and had no problem. maybe they fixed it.
